Am being a rather dense bear at the moment so indulge me!

I have a Y to PE voucher and want to go to SFO so that’s 30k miles (off peak) for the economy seat to get me into PE if I use the voucher.i think I just need Y availability or do I need just PE?

The upgrade table then says PE to UC is 67,400

So I make that I need 97,400 miles in total.

So Peak would then be 50k + 77,400 = 127,400)?


Is that correct or have I miscounted on my paws?.

And would I just need UC reward availability (I’d do this on the phone in one transaction) or would I need it in both Y/PE and UC?

if you want to use the E-PE voucher to fly PE then you just need reward availability in PE. (but you only pay the E miles)

If you want to then upgrade later to UC then there just needs to be reward availability in UC.

If you've already booked in PE and want to upgrade then you cant just pay the miles difference from PE to UC. However you can put the voucher back into your account and pay the difference in miles to upgrade from E to UC.

That's what should happen, however in my personal experience twice VS customer service made a mistake and the agent just took extra miles to upgrade me from PE to UC after I had booked PE using the upgrade voucher. Of course I didn't question this as they know what they are doing :-D On one occasion I did receive a call a few days later saying they had made a mistake, your mistake I said not mine, and they let it go and left the booking as it was. So both times I got UC for something like 40-60K miles and PE upgrade voucher

I've not booked yet. My thought was to phone and do it all in one transaction. I don't have the miles to do it otherwise.

I'll phone them and see what they say and perhaps rely on an agent getting it wrong for VS but right for me :D :D

I'll be very clear what I want so not going to try and bamboozle anyone and if it works it works.

Something similar happened to me recently where the difference between "Upgrade" and "Reward" tickets and therefore mileage costs were quoted incorrectly - VS honoured the lower rate as they acknowledged it was their mistake.
