Transferring airmiles

My wife has just over 10k air miles in her account, I've had a look and it appears she can 'transfer' them to my account which has alot more in but there appears to be a charge. Is there another / cheaper way for her to get the 10,000 miles over to my account without these charges?

If one of you is Gold, you can create a household account and pool your miles.

If not, your wife can put her miles towards the cost of a reward flight for anybody as long as she has enough to pay for one entire leg for one person. But no, she can’t just transfer them to you for free.
