I had the afternoon tea in the JFK Clubhouse a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely delicious. Hopefully the tea on board is just as good.

Alas, I have no Upper trips in the works so it's unlikely I'll ever try that tasty sounding pie...

My take from VS7.

  • Tomato soup was spot on.
  • Chicken & leek pie was pretty decent. As with any kind of pastry cooked in those type of ovens, it was a bit chewy, but still good. The mash that goes with it was lovely!
  • Chocolate marble mousse was pretty standard.
  • The burger from extra bites was the same as it's been on other flights.
  • The sticky asian pork smelled absolutely amazing but I didn't try it, so can't comment on taste.

It has to be said that there is nothing on that new UC menu that "wow's me". Yes, I'd find something to eat for each course, but it's hardly amazing.

But note to Virgin - please don't go back to the days of the Mediterranean themed menu, that was dreadful. (Back in about 2006).

Look at what the competition are doing. Emirates (admittedly not a direct competitor as VS are ending DXB & focusing on flying West). EK business class food is excellent, in both quality and portion size. Just compare the cheese you get on Virgin [three slithers] with the cheeseboard you get presented with on Emirates.

My thoughts precisely - in fact, I'm a bit underwhelmed!

Just had our preorder for the VS05 flight this Saturday and the Mains have changed thankfully!

Red chick pea curry
Braised rump steak with tomato and mozzarella tortellini and sauteed garlic kale
Chicken and Leek Pie
Tandoori Salmon Salad

Thought I'd give the Braised rump steak a try :D

And I have just had the pre-order for the VS97 on Sunday. Only difference to yours CB is that instead of the rump we get

"Tender beef fillet topped with a herb crust. With mashed swede, lemon chilli potatoes, tender stem broccoli and a garlic and herb jus."

Which reminds me that I must check whether any of my shoes need new soles. :D
