Flew UC on the A332 from LGW to ANU this week. Some thoughts for anyone interested! My wife and I were in 5A and 4C.

Pros:

Love sitting facing forward, being able to see out of the window.

Very comfy chair. Even more so in bed format and love not having to flip it over. Love being able to recline to half bed-mode and just lie at 45 degrees watching the screen / staring vacantly out of the window (depending on how many redheads someone may have enjoyed in the lounge).

TV screen - amazing. Makes the old A333 look like a game-boy screen. It's big, it's crystal clear and the controls are superb.

In 5A, it's very private. 3 windows. Loads of space. Feels really spacious.

Big storage space and area to put things at shoulder level in either seat.

Smaller UC cabin...I quite like that.

Table - big, easy to swivel and very easy to escape the seat even midway through your meal. Would likely be a good laptop perch also.

Cons:

I'm 6ft 6. The seat in bed mode is not. To stretch out, my feet were poking round into the next seat (my wife, so all ok!). I'd guess you'd need to be 6ft 2 or less to actually lie flat.

In 4C you get bumped by everyone passing. And the person to your right is very close.

Whole cabin feels very small and claustrophobic, it's not until you sit in your seat that you realise how good things are!

No bar...really missed this.

Armrest (left in 5A, right in 4C) very, very narrow...painfully so...not comfortable at all.

Had an absolute animal sitting behind me, god knows what he was doing but the whole of my seat unit kept shaking. I think he was kicking it repeatedly...eventually after trying to sleep for a few hours I stood up and gave him a very angry stare...after which he was quiet as a mouse fortunately.

No air vents...at all. I don't understand this!

Conclusion:

In 5A, or similar config seat...i am surprised to say that I really liked the A332. I would choose that seat over any seat on the A333 any day...even though I miss the bar.

Advice:

Window seat...no question about it.

Trivia:

In certain areas the Air Berlin ghost remains, anyone else spot the German signs in certain places?!

Glad you had a good experience and that I’m not alone in thinking the seat is far more comfortable. Being only 5ft 2 I did not have any issues about the length of the seat in bed mode.

Not sure how I could of forgotten about that absolutely amazing screen! It really is fantastic!

Did not spot the German signage but will look out for it when back on board an A322 in a couple of months

Not the only aircraft with ghosts of former owners... The "Alitalia 5" 747's - GVROY / GVROM / GVLIP / GVROS / GVGAL - all have signs in the toilets in both Italian & English.

Alitalia never took the aircraft, but cancelled the order very late when the cabin fit-outs had been pretty much done. Virgin snapped up the 5 747's in question & dropped talks with BA about buying some used 747-400's off them. This meant Virgin got new planes with GE engines (second hand ones from BA would have had RR engines) - helps with fleet commonality.
