Hi there

Looking for some help regarding above flight.

Arrived at airport with OH and have been ticketed (and seated) but check in agents say flight is overfilled and were trying to get us to downgrade and the couple next to us (we are in UC) who were in PE to downgrade also as a knock on. They’ve oversold the flight quite significantly it seems.

Now we’re in the lounge and worrying because we haven’t flown VS in a while (so status lapsed) and bought one ticket on miles and the other on a sale fare + MOD discount. If they start involuntary we look like prime candidates.

Anything we can do to make sure we get home? Are we needlessly worrying?

All they were offering for downgrade (we wouldn’t have taken it as I’m a really nervous flyer) is a 1 way same class ticket. The other one way would probably cost as much as a return!

Thanks
Mali

At the momement from what you say they are only looking for volunteers and that more often than not works.

EU261 rules will kick in if / when they do it involuntarialy (reimbursement of 75% of the base fare for the sector of your trip that was downgraded).

If they do downgrade you then yes you will still get home tomorrow morning as normal but if you want to remain in UC then they should be happy to rebook you onto tomorrow evenings flight (but it's unlikely they will pay for a hotel as you are in effect delaying yourself but you could suggest that to them as an option to help them out if that's what you want to do)

EDIT - rereading your post given that you have been given BPs for UC then that to me suggests that you are safe from being downgraded. if they were going to do it they would do it at check-in not at the gate
