Delta domestic baggage charge Economy delight reward flight

Decided in the end to book reward economy HOU - MCO in January 2025 with miles and $$, I'm accruing a lot of miles on my card at the minute so thought it was worth it ( 18k pp plus $6 each ) We have booked Delta main cabin on Economy delight through the VS website. Should we get free bags ?or will Delta's baggage charge apply ? We are silver at the time of booking but will go back to red by the time we fly.

Also, we are travelling Upper from MCO the following day back into Manchester, will we be able to use the lounge at Houston the day before ? The connecting flight from Atlanta to MCO lands at 00.30 the same day we fly back to Manchester if that makes sense! the bookings are not linked

Delta’s baggage charges will apply. If you access the Calculate Baggage Estimate link on the Delta App or website and your FC numbers are linked it will currently show $0.00 or 0 miles for the 1st bag, $45.00 or 4,500 miles for the second bag. After you switch to Red, it will show $35.00 or 3,500 miles for the 1st bag and so on. I’ve looked and can’t find a mechanism to pay for baggage with Virgin points. I am reporting from current experience as we have economy reward seats booked with Delta for later this year. I am silver and my other half has recently changed to Red and I have tracked the changes.

Regarding the lounge I suspect the answer is no as it’s not a connecting ticket. There was a similar discussion regarding Gold access on a split itinerary. See dmc’s post 18 April Access to Sky Club w/ separate itinerary. Sorry, don’t know how to post link.

However, be aware that once you revert to Red status by the time of your flight, you may be subject to Delta's standard baggage fees. Regarding lounge access in Houston before your Upper Class flight from Orlando to Manchester, you should have access even if your bookings are separate, provided you can show proof of your Upper Class reservation.
