Hi

Planning a trip to LA and San Francisco. Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel at LAX with reliable hotel shuttle as we land fairly late and just need somewhere to crash for the night. Ideally near alamo car hire pick up. My mind is getting swamped looking through google at hotels so any help appreciated.
Also any other hotel recommendations for the rest of the road trip. (Universal 3 nights, anaheim 2 nights and route 1 to San Francisco) Nothing too fancy as partner is more interested in the drive than the hotel. Thanks in advance ☺️

If in a rental car (which it sounds like you will be), avoid any hotel around the Marina Del Ray. It is a known hot-spot for car break-ins. The "nice people" just look for the the barcodes / QR codes on the cars that scream "rental car" and know that any car parked up there is heading to LAX, so potential rich pickings in the boot.

A friend had his rental car broken into at Marina Del Ray. They reported it to the police & the officers eyes just rolled and basically said "another one, today".

The Hyatt Regency is one of the closest to LAX and has a permanently looping shuttle every 15-20 minutes rather than an "On Demand" shuttle. It's also walkable to In-N-Out Burger at the end of the runway ;-). We enjoyed our one night there in 2023 and found the front desk really helpful as one of our cases locks had broken.

Here's the info from an email they sent me:

The Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport provides a complimentary shuttle to and from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Our dedicated airport shuttle runs 24 hours a day, approximately every 20 minutes between the airport and the hotel. Pick-up and drop-offs are on the UPPER level at LAX in the shuttle zones identified with RED curbside pylons that read “Hotel Shuttles/Private Parking Shuttles”. Our airport shuttles are purple and white with the signage for the Hyatt Regency and QuikPark prominently displayed on each side. The hotel is conveniently located across the street from Terminal 1.

I don't know how far it is from the Alamo Car Rental depot though unfortunately.

I really liked the H Hotel at LAX. It's part of the Hilton Curio collection and shares a building with the Homewood Suites. The room was very spacious with good ceiling height and views of LAX. I would have happily spent longer there.

I have also stayed at the Marriott which was fine - nothing to complain about, but nothing to remark upon either.

I have stayed at the Marriott on West Century Blvd on numerous occasions. Shuttle bus service right outside the exit doors at LAX and bus comes along clearly marked. You could get then get Uber the following morning to the Alamo rental desk (6 mins away) as the car rentals are close but are all off site at LAX.

Nice drive along the coast up to SFO. Lots of SFO airport hotels in the Burlington area very close to car rental drop off, again not on site but then you catch the monorail from car garage to airport. Enjoy

LAX Hyatt Regency is my go to hotel at the airport. It's an easy walk from the terminals so you don't even need to catch the shuttle. From T2 it's about 15 minutes walk
