Holding flights or booking one-way?

This has been asked before but I can't find any definitive answer from a recent post.

Given that we now have this dreadful dynamic pricing, will FC hold outbound flights for you until the return is released, or else book as one way then later join them together as return when you book the inbound so that the taxes are reduced?

They have always done this for us in the past but this is the first time of me booking since the changes!

One more question for the experts - how do I use a companion voucher if I am initially only booking one-way? Maybe they have to do it on points then refund these when I book the return?

They can hold flights I believe for 72 hours.
However, you cannot add the return flight to the outbound booking.
However, you can cancel a flight from a return booking no problem. Dreadful system.

It’s either you wait until return flight is released and then book risking the outbound has increases in points or do one way bookings but takes are higher.

I’ve got LHR to MBJ booked for next month. When the outbound was released managed to book x4 PE savers seats. Not a chance they would have still been available if I’d waited a week for the inbounds to be released.

I’ve just managed both bookings separately. Not ideal has you have to put in your FlyReady stuff twice, and I keep getting the notification about no return flight found on the outbound booking. But have been assured that it’s fine by FC.

I have now called them and they said that they can still join up the flights as return IF your outbound is still available at the same points and IF paying the £70 change fee works in your favour versus the extra tax of 2 separate legs. They are really not making anything easy these days!
