I booked an ex-AMS fare a couple of weeks ago through Expedia and like you, I was surprised to find a seat assignment in CE on the AMS-LHR leg but nothing on the LGW-AMS leg. :-O Perhaps they have twigged my plans! ;-)

I was allocated seats for my CE bookings at booking but only at OLCI for the TATL sector. I could OLCI for that when the DUB - LCY opened but could only change seats on that flight once it got to T-24 (but not printed / downloaded boarding pass.

I just wanted to say thanks. Following all your advice yesterday I looked at BRU - SFO return rather than the trip to LAS and returning from SFO, and managed to get them for just over £1400 each. Now I just have to get to Brussels!!!!! :D

Just booked CPH-LHR/LCY-JFK-LHR-CPH for £922. Bargain. The exchange rates at the moment are helping too.

Google Flights is a good site as well as the ITA Matrix (both owned by Google). I could easily see that booking the same flight on AA.com was over £1k cheaper than BA.com.

Don't forget that your last leg should ideally be from a different London airport, otherwise your luggage might end up in the wrong city!

I have searched for a few CE fares recently and on the BA app the fare comes up, say LHR-AMS £159 "includes seat assignment".

Maybe a trial?

That's the nice thing about the day flight back from JFK. I land at 8pm, I then have till 8pm the next day to fly to CPH without the price going up. I also get to check my bags to LHR as they won't keep them overnight. So I pick up my bag, go home, then go back to LHR for the remaning flight.

I'm guessing that the answer's no but does anyone know if pax travelling VS UC taking the first leg ex-DUB Aer Lingus get to use the Aer Lingus lounge? Or do you have to pay the 25 euros?

Also, if you have to pay, is it worth it?

I think you have to pay.

It is quite a pleasant place with self-service beverages and snacks and a self service bar. There is a mezzanine area with a viewing area (although the blinds were down at the time because of the morning sun. I seem to remember that showers were available. To be honest, the main departure area in T2 in Dublin is so nice that I wouldn't really bother with the lounge unless you wanted a shower. They only announce transatlantic flights in the lounge so you have to watch the departures board but the gates are not too far away.

I've done quite a few now, and never had any issues when checking in a bag and confirming that it's only checked through to LHR as the next flight is the day after.

Oddly I noticed when researching ex DUB fares in recent weeks on Expedia that "business" was the fare class given to the initial EI DUB-LGW leg. I didn't think EI had a business class on their A320's?

No, they don't. I guess it's just the fare code it books into. On the BA website, the VS legs of ex-EU itineraries show up as "First" which of course VS don't have (much as they might like to think they do!).

If you check same flights on BA a pop up warns you that the DUB sector is in a different class... You might be booked in a higher fare family though...

Just booked Dublin-Vegas-Dublin for April '16, 5 of us travelling Upper for £1,250pp. Very pleased with that price :D

The Aer Lingus flight is on economy though but that doesn't really matter. We have booked the Travel Lodge at Dublin airport to catch the early morning flight to LGW.

I hope we manage to short check our baggage to LGW on the return. Has anyone who has done this type of flight found any diffiuclty? We have a 4.5hr lay over for the LGW to Dublin leg so my excuse would be I want my bag so I can freshen up at the airport, if an excuse is needed......

Ideally you should have chosen the option to have that last sector from LHR and not LGW. That way the check-in staff at LAS are forced to short check your baggage. Expedia tend to always offer up a fourth sector option ex LHR when third sector is into LGW.

Hopefully you'll be OK :)

We recently did AMS - LAS - AMS via MAN. We wanted the cases short checked to MAN on the return and there was no problem at all. The check in agent first checked our cases through to AMS but when I asked for them to be checked to MAN she apologised for not fasking us first if this is what we wanted! I understand there have been some occasions at US airports where short checking has been an issue but LAS doesn't appear to have any problems with it....at least not yet.
We're doing DUB - LAS - DUB in September, again via MAN. I'll let people know if there any problems surface.

Just returned from a ex Dub trip with BA DUB-LHR-ORD-MCI-ORD-LHR-DUB

We booked our return Dublin flight for the day after our arrival at LHR and had no trouble at all having the bags checked to LHR instead of all the way to DUB

I've just checked a few Ex-EU locations for a trip to Miami in Feb, and it looks like DUB is out and BRU is back in!

DUB>LHR>MIA was £2,800
AMS>LHR>MIA was £1,800
BRU>LHR>MIA was £1,400

So as other posters have mentioned, it's worth checking around the different Ex-EU starting locations.

I've also just done DUB>LHR>SFO for £1200 so that hopefully might give some people a guide price for Ex-EU starting fares. Maybe worth a sticky for the cheapest routing to VS destinations? Otherwise I might end up writing an app for it!!

Got the same fares myself for DUB>LHR>SFO when I booked in March for a late Dec out Jan return in UC.

Loving a spreadsheet as much as I do 8-) for 2015 so far using my flight dates (26 Dec out - 12 Jan back) the UC fares to SFO via the following have had this spread:

via DUB - £1,088 - £1,312
via AMS - £1,449 - £3,095
via BRU - £1,399 - £1,539
via CDG - £1,903 - £2,599

Obviously these are only valid on the dates I mentioned but hopefully they may help someone get an idea of the spread from various locations.

seany wrote:Don't forget CPH and HEL, often have the lowest, particularly to NYC as DUB is a no go due to Delta.

When I booked my ex-DUB at the end of May for flights 1st week of July DL direct was still more expensive than flying via LON on BA. I didn't see any VS options either.

Not sure if there was a BA sale on the NYC routes that would have made them even cheaper at the time though.

But it does pay to do some research on the various options and what works well for say NYC won't necessarily be the best for say SFO.

And the farther you get away from London the fewer the options for the long haul sector as you arrive at LHR later in the day and so a slew of flights can't be connected too - unless you do the positionings the day before of course.

I use google flights as it is a lot quicker than expedia especially when you want to play around with dates and times.

Just seeking come clarification for my upcoming ex-EU. DUB-LHR-JFK-LHR-DUB...Positioning from LCY

My first leg is the night before, I'm then going to go home, and go back to LHR the next day. Do I have to take my luggage with me, check it in at CPH? Or can I leave it at home and just check it in at LHR, even though technically I'm already checked in (?)....Do I pick up my VS boarding pass as normal at LHR or is it issued in DUB?

Also on the way home, if the DUB flight is the day after arrival do I still have to request it to be checked to LHR or will this be done automatically due to the fact it's the next day?

Thanks
