A lot of people in Y don't know / appreciate that fact and without PE and UC then the Y fares would be so much higher for exactly the same service. Ditto for other airlines too.

The vast majority of people in whatever cabin just get on a plane and sit in their seats but there will always be the odd one ot two in every cabin who feel they are better than everyone else and aren't backward in coming forwards in making that known to anyone who will listen to their whinging.

As someone else said, If I am in UC and have paid a UC price then I expect to get the full UC service even if that annoys other pax (and thats their problem) and it is clear that especially on the strange Config 4 planes that some UC pax don't get what they have paid for.

Personally when I was in Y I was envious of those in the premium cabins with their extra room etc but did I hate them? certainly not it just spurred me to save up! And now I travel Business / UC do I feel better than pax in Y? no I don't because I know how lucky I am to be able to afford it (Z or G only though!)

And you can usually spot them a mile off too and they do like to whinge a lot. The tales I could tell..... ):

Would this whole (rather heated) discussion - at least for the B&S routes 747s - be negated if upper decks were totally UCS, the 'left turn' at the front accommodated only PE and the Y configuration was a 'right turn' on boarding?
Simplistic, I know and I'm sure bigger brains that mine have looked at this solution. But why not ?|

I believe (but do STBC) they need to provide access to all cabins on the main deck so that any pax that are unable to access the upper deck for whatever reason are not being discriminated against. So having just UC on the upper deck would go against that.

Does any other airline do this split class in their bubbles or are VS on their own?

You are correct Neil. That is why in the LGW planes there is a small PE cabin downstairs

Tonty

Air New Zealand split their 747 bubbles too. The front is Business (UCS in the VS world) and the back is PE in a 3-2 config - hence a wider aisle. I don't believe they have an on board bar (but STBC) so there is less reason for the UC pax to go downstairs. At the back of the bubble on the left where VS put magazines, ANZ lay out a big tray of goodies - chocolates, biscuits, fruit, playing cards - which the PE and UCS pax can help themselves to.
