Hang on guys, I think we're being a bit hasty here. After all people strip quite happily in other public places like beaches etc. and some of those people are quite attractive.

Could the OP post a picture of themselves in the proposed attire before we make a decision, oh and can you tell us what flight you're proposing stripping on.

Once I have this I believe I will be able to make an informed decision.

Oh my, what a great thread.

The answer is no, it really isn't acceptable to strip off in the cabin whether under a duvet or not. You are in a public place surrounded by strangers who really don't want to see you in just your undies or less. Plus when you add different cultures and children into the mix, it really isn't a good idea.

The amount of blankets I've had to find to cover sleeping people up is amazing. They either fall asleep on top of their duvet or strip off under the duvet and roll onto their side taking the duvet with them and therefore expose themselves to the rest of the cabin. I have seen sights that I never want to see again.

If you get too hot in a sleep suit then take your own PJ's, t-shirt and shorts etc but please do not strip off!

And don't get me started with guys taking their shirts off "to be more comfortable" whilst watching TV in the cabin - again no one want to see that especially during the meal service!

Remember "It's not THAT hot and neither are you".

You are kidding?! :0

Gosh that takes the "class" out of upper... :$

It is funny, but I am not a fan of looking at guy's moobs: acceptable at the beach/pool, but otherwise (i.e. walking along the street, in the park) think it is better to keep them (and the belly which is displayed at the same time) covered up. Even if a guy has an amazing chest, generally a little "mystery" (of wearing a nice top) is no bad thing.

Athletic shorts and some t-shirt is my normal onboard. I normally sleep in the nude at my house. In public places such as a beach or airplane, proper cover is needed.

Flip side to being nude in UCS is that you don't know who else had their bits all over that seat or if someone (I have) has threw-up all over the UCS after having a bit too much to drink. They clean those seats well but...

Tinks you are wrong, somethings it is that hot.

BTW if Zac Efron was sat next to me removing his shirt, I'd say YES!

I've slept in just my jeans before, a few times in fact, but every time the cabin was either empty or had 1 person in it (ex-ANU so only 14 suites) no one saw anything, and if they did it was nothing scarring, I'm an athletic young man :P. Also flying out of ANU in an empty cabin there is a nice relaxed atmosphere, the crew are great at entertaining and chatting when it's just lonely me in UC :).

However generally the answer is no, especially just underwear :0

Well I doubt that is acceptable but I don't have facts, rules to back that.

So is there a CAA or VS T&C or condition of carriage that outlines what I must wear as a passenger? A dress code? I would interested in knowing myself. ):

There may not be a formal dress code - maybe there should be with hats for ladies etc? - but there are certain unwritten rules of conduct and norms to follow.

A plane is still a public place and nudity should not be tollerated. There are lots of nudist beaches etc but no one forces someone to go there. On a plane it is different - people have no choice about who else is in the cabin.

What someone does in their own home in their own affair but once out of home then different rules apply.

I agree that nudity on a plane/public transport is not cool in general. Larger issue is beside general moral conduct, what authority does VS have to say what one can wear? Compliance with crew member instructions is required. On other airlines: There have been times when men sagging their jeans were not allowed to board even with athletic shorts under the jeans, no undergarment/skin was showing. Other times men in drag were not allowed to board. Nudity on board is a bit much. "Distracting clothing to others" is vague, subjective and negates others values.

Thanks Darren, did see that. It is quite subjective. It is challenging for VS or any airline to have a rule as such without guidelines. What is very discomforting and causes strong disstress to 'travler Blue' by 'travler Green' or crew-member of a different culture/view might not be enforced or seen as a big deal by the enforcer. Without clear rules, it is purely subjective; especially in an environment that has strong culture representations.

Sadly the majority of UC is filled with Finance / Business types, not hot Celebs/ Models (dream on all you naive hopers).

That means middle aged blokes mostly, and I do not wish to see their undies, or any of the 'wardrobe malfunctions' associated with that!

I hope at 31 I am not considered middle aged!

As for celebs, I had the pleasure (if you can call it that) to sleep next to Cheryl Cole on the way back from Los Angeles.

To add, I checked with the crew on my flight home from Shanghai and provided you are discrete and only remove the sleep suit whilst covered by the duvet in your suite then they have no issue with it.

Obviously if you are the type of sleeper who frequently dispenses with the duvet mid-sleep then that will be an issue but on the whole they said it's fine and many people do it.
