You can definitely continue using your old Amex card number, there is apparently no obligation to use the new one. This confirmed by customer services at VS Amex...

Got mine too and they are virtually melting with early Christmas shopping and trying to get extra miles on offers :-)

Similar to sky0000547 what does the plus+ mean ?

The contactless payment method works on the black Visa card but not the Black Amex off the same account - go figure.

If it's a brand new card, in order to use contactless, you must first use the card via a standard chip & PIN transaction.

I only had Amex too - seems the automatic thing was to replace with 2 cards (Amex and Visa).

I have contacted MBNA regarding the additional Visa card after turning green with envy after all the teasing posts on here ): . They have said that my Visa card will be available to me in 1 week.....so therefore it could either be a strategic roll out or just issue on demand :? Who knows....

Hmmm - I think the contactless payment was the first time I'd used the Visa card. And I had certainly used the AMEX card several times before I tried contactless with it. Ho hum, it is a quirk I can live with...I would just like to know why one works and the other doesn't given they are coming off the same account. Maybe it is the machine software or something...

I have had a white card for a couple of years and applied for and got a black card earlier this year. I don't use the white card any more, but haven't got around to cancelling the account. A few weeks ago, I received my two new white cards, but no new black cards.

Last week I rang Card Services to ask why this was, and was told that the 'upgrade' was only by invitation. However, she made a note to send a 'request' to VS for my black card account to be upgraded too, so I am now waiting for the outcome of this request and the opportunity to get my free 1,000 miles!

i have attempted to use my AMEX contactless a few times and it doesn't work for me either my visa on the other hand works with contactless after the first chip and pin use so you are not the only one.

As I understand it's down to the merchant or its provider rather than the card issuer as to it's contactless acceptance. I've had patchy acceptance of my BMI AmEx via this method.

Have sent seperate messages from my own and my wife's VS AX online accounts and got the following back:

I can confirm that we have only offered the Visa card to selected customers at the moment. We will be offering this card to all our customers from the 08/12/2011 and you will be able to request this card online

Has anyone had any success using Wave&Pay with the Amex card? I have only managed it with the Visa.
With Amex it just says to use chip and pin to authorise payment when presented, even at retailers that say they accept wireless Amex. ?|
