I'm late to this thread, but mainly because I've been away for most of October, and in that time, have taken both VS PE and UC flights as well as BA CW.

Are Virgin special?

No, not any more. It's the nostalgia that makes getting on a VS plane feel different, not the service or seat.

Like many have commented, taking a VS flight used to be a really special experience, something that would get you excited and looking forward to the flight.

With all the cut backs, the seeming inconsistent and frequently disinterested crew, the experience is no longer special, but getting on planes you know by name and having memories of great flights in the paststill brings a certain buzz.

On my VS flights recently, I had a very mediocre PE crew that were more suited to the cliché of BA crews of old and a good UC crew on the return.

On my BA flights I had consistently good, friendly, chatty and helful crew.

VS now feel like "any other airline" to me, if it weren't for the good memories, there would be nothing there that would make me choose VS over another airline now.

Yes, the club houses are special, but that isn't an important factor for me, as long as a lounge is comfortable for a couple of hours, I'm happy.

@concorde RIP I agree to an extent
I remember looking on the VS website at UC and thinking how cool it would be to get onboard massage and Oswald boetang cuff links etc
When I finally got to try UC (ok it was an op up) I was a bit disappointed tbh in terms of not being able to experience those things. Instead the amenity kit looked like an old bit of material with just the usual bits and don't get me started on the fact it was my first experience of REEL (even though I have flown VS since '99)
Having said that I have booked UC for my next flight so haven't totally fallen out of love with VS. kinda hoping they will get back in the black (or st least near to it soon) then we will hopefully see the things that made VS special
