When the ipad bag came out (or poorly stitched woollen thing which I am sure had insects in that bit me) by husband said that he would have loved to have been in the room when it was presented as the new kit.

I assume he meant they would all be rolling on the floor laughing at how carp it it.

I cant believe anyone thought it was a good idea. How awful they were was shown by the numbers who either refused it or left it on the seat at the end of a flight.

Just seen other post- glass really?

Maybe airlines have cut the amenity packs because the demand isn't there or they're wasted?

First world problems! y)

I think there is a hefty grain of truth in that -- I have literally loads of unopened amenity kits. I've never used all of the items and often I don't use any....

I can remember my earlier VS flights where sometimes there were two packs handed out. :0

I can also remember seeing many of them left unopened on the seats as we were disembarking :(

As long as I get a grey goose a port and great service, I'll be happy!
I'm very easy to please!

Isn't it recycled PET?

As were a large number of the EK flight I took back from Sydney in the New Year.

After looking at the pic I think the only decent thing in that pack is the 15ml of pro collagen oxygenating night cream!

Give me a vodka...at a onboard bar...with "glamorous" stewards any day!

Kraken wrote:Flew out to Dubai on Emirates yesterday in Business Class. Not an amenity kit in sight there (on the A380 too, so supposedly their flagship product). The business class toilets did have drawers that were supposed to contain toothbrushes / toothpaste / razors etc (i.e. everything that would have been in an amenity kit) - but they were empty a couple of hours into the flight.

Poor show Emirates - it's obviously not just Virgin who have the aggressive bean-counters at work

EK policy is amenity kits in business on night flights or ultra long haul only. It's a good kit, but as I said many were still left when we disembarked...had it not looked crass I might have hoovered a few up.... :D

That looks much the same as the QF amenity kit...

The Etihad amenity pack......Business class version. It is a nice looking woven bag in a traditional Emirati design.

Unlike the EK equivalent these are unisex and contain socks and eyeshades, Korres hand cream and lip balm, dental kit, a care kit....containing cotton buds, pads and emery board, and what looks like a suppository but is in fact the ear plugs and container. I also asked for and got a shaving kit.

And for those who haven't seen them, the EK kits are shown in this thread.

Emirates is good- men and womens.

BA have just changed theirs so will see if they are any good in a few weeks- I have only had the BA plant pots recently- dont even take the BA 1st cases from the plane- sometimes decant contents.

Basically if you can afford £2k for a flight you can afford to get your own beauty samples!

Which airline does the mini suitcases- they are cool. Rimowa

I only open the VS amenity kit these days to get the pen to fill out the landing cards and immigration forms.

Even not so long ago I would keep the larger ones for use as a toiletries bag, but even the UC ones are so small these days I leave them.

I don't know what it is with amenity kits but I do seem to collect them, full or otherwise - I don't mean to but they appear home at the end of a holiday in with the dirty washing, sand and suntan lotion bottles.

I have a suitcase full of mini bags, covers, tubes of toothpaste, mints, earplugs, toothbrushes (some with amazing storage inventions), socks, eye masks and biros. When I'm having a clear out I find them all again but as I rummage through I remember the holiday/flight and reminisce, thus putting them back safely until the next spring clean.

My best is the BA similar to HL's but I had triplicate Elemis products in (must have been stuck on the production line!)

Apologises if its already been mentioned.

I was on a PE flight to the US last month and there wasn't an amenity kit, according to cabin crew, all PE amenity kits OUTBOUND have been removed for cost cutting (as most people apparently didn't use anything in the kit. I've used the tooth brush/paste and eye thingys but maybe thats just me!).

You still get one when returning to the UK.

If you treat yourself to some Elemis right now they are giving out free mens or ladies travel pouches, nice they are too.

The new BA F kits are a big improvement - mainly as the case is now a much more usable wash bag type pouch, compared with the silly Hindmarsh thing of the last few years.

The contents have changed too - though the couple of facial/eye gel things I tried on board were somewhat dull and ineffectual.

I may be a weirdo but I really like the iPad cases! Turn them inside out and they look way cooler! ;)

Is it just me or does the foul tasting 1980s toothpaste only makes your long-hull breath taste worse?

I love the stuff for your baggy eyes in the BA kit, esspecially when you come off a flight looking like Benicio Del Toro on coke! ;)

Hope I get one on the way home... I'm down to my last 8 ;)

FYI - Emirates bags are rather sumptuous, especially in First - and are available on ALL flights. They don't hand them out except on ULH and night services, but they are always carried and available on request.

They are indeed sumptuous.

Unless a frequent EK flyer though you aren't likely to know you can ask for one on non ULH or day flights, so for me that's kind of the same as just not being available which doesn't give a great impression - see Kraken's recent MAN-DXB experience.

forum/index.php?f=21&t=285369&rb_v=viewtopic

Also, a number of threads on Flyertalk suggest that, as per all airlines, EK is not consistent is delivery of this principle of service. And yes, sad git that I am, I did research carefully to see if I could pick up a bag on the DXB-LHR leg of our trip down under... :)
