Hmmm, I'm no expert but that seems odd to me - no other flights around that time were canned, and it just surprises me that they would not hold the flight until the wind died off!

Unless you mean high winds in ATL?

And I'm gonna have to keep my fingers crossed that the weather is kind to me on Friday as I'm on the 103...

Sorry I'm on gardening leave just now and watching too much Ben & Holly.

I can see an end to water cannon salutes in the near future. Or at least direct them away from the plane onto the grass.

On the subject of headwinds at least Virgin fly proper planes over the Atlantic. United and American are still flying single aisle 757s from as far as Hamburg to New York. They've been having to stop at Halifax for splash and dash refuelling.

I flew Manchester to New York via London on Little Red last August for that very reason. I don't see what they gain from flying them like that. pretty much all the Manchester to New York flights are all 757's, Virgin are missing a trick on that one but thats a rant for another day. I will write one up when I have more time

The Glasgow 757s to NY and Philidelphia don't have to stop for refuelling when there's headwinds, I think we're far enough up that it's within range.

This question is all about the shape and size Virgin wants to be. Before they were a hub airline flying jumbos from hub to hub. They tried Little Red to feed into their hubs and it didn't work (in their opinion). They're now developing more into a point to point airline, and the A330 & 787s are perfect for this. Once there's more Dreamliners in the fleet MAN-EWR would make a lot of sense, as would GLA-ATL and feeding into the Delta network.

Heathrow ask airlines to cancel a certain %age of their flights if there will be disruption. I think it was around 5% on that day, up to the airlines what they cut.
