Can only assume the "Special Meal" is the pre-order - as in theory they should be unable to offer you another choice from the menu - even though the pre-order is one of the standard menu items.

Have a great flight!

Got my email today for my flight to Vegas Friday

Again just standard Menu, nothing extra on, I thought they might have used this as a chance to roll out an enhanced choice for Pax whilst still minimizing waste.

Very easy process!

Not sure if it was just because it was still in the trial phase, but I never got anything before my VS128 JFK>MAN return flight the other week (not that I eat on over-night flights, other than breakfast).

Pretty sure it’s outbound only. BA only offers it ex-London and Qatar ex-Doha.

I guess it’s easy enough to set up at your home base where you’re the big fish, less so at an outstation where you’re a minor player.

Still no email - so I called the VS Call Centre [in Swansea]. Have been peddled every line of "rubbish" [replace with more suitable words of your choice] possible.

They state - correctly - that it was not a VS website booking, so no email address captured. The fact I had the PNR within seconds of booking and linked it in my Flying Club account, which has my email address & the booking shows in "My Flights", then threw them. Put on hold.

Then got "the pre-order is only a random trial and has finished". Told them to look at the VS website on the Upper Class dining pages which suggests quite the opposite. Put on hold, again.

Then got it's impossible to resend an automated email, so you just have to hope for your choice of food on the day. Redirected them to the VS website and advised them that, in the past, when incorrect info had been on there about chauffeur driven car distance had been wrong they had pulled it within hours. Put on hold again.

Whilst they could do nothing, they have - apparently - noted my booking to request a beef meal on the outbound. Will wait and see what happens!

All in all a very poor show from Virgin.

Following on from the above - have just done OLCI for tomorrows flight & my boarding pass says "Special Meal Requested" on it, so no idea what the call centre have done / requested. As it's less than T-24hrs I can't see the meal option on Manage My Booking either so it's a case of make sure I eat well in the terminal / lounge beforehand.

See upthread - that’s what mitchja had when he pre-selected. So seems to be normal.

Received an email this lunchtime inviting me to choose my main meal for a flight on Monday 11th, so it is still in place and sort of working. This trip was not booked directly with VS on their site but via a corporate TA.

We both just got the pre-select meal email through ahead of our LGW-ANU flight on Thursday.

Its a yes from me!

Definitely an enhancement. Now if they could just change our A332 back to an A333 we would be really happy customers!

We pre ordered our main after we received the email from Virgin for our recent flight to NYC, We had special meal printed on our boarding cards, when we boarded the Cabin manager came over and confirmed we were happy with our choice. Great flight, trip report to follow.

Having recently flown on the A332 do not be too quick to dismiss it. I actually prefer the UC seat over the herringbone layout. Its far more comfortable as a bed too as I find the others rock hard

Thanks MoJoJo - It's the very definition of a first world problem right! Good to hear some positive feedback about it.

We will go in with a mostly open mind...despite lack of bar (which on this route we usually spend a few hours enjoying) and the recent negative reviews.
