Thanks very much for reporting back with this...I couldn't resist this crazy price and booked it.

£995 return UC straight out of LHR? Yes please!

I booked directly on the VS website, the fare showed up no problem for multiple dates in October.

Must be a new offer as it wasn't there yesterday!

Still the price could have gone up but I paid a good price so no complaints from me !

Just to add a little more info to this, it seems the option to fly direct on VS metal is available up until the 20th of October (last return date)....The 1k fare remains well after that into november and december but is not available direct and involves a connection of some sort.

That's when the VS ORD service ends for the 'summer'

My daughter is considering an Ex Dublin trip to Boston.
She would do the positioning flight MAN-DUB the evening before the main event, then:

DUB - LHR on BA or EI, LHR - BOS on VS11
Return:
BOS - LHR on VS12, and (conveniently forgetting the LHR - DUB sector), return to MAN on a BA.

Questions.
Would hold baggage be checked through from DUB to BOS?
Would hold baggage be checked through from BOS to LHR only on request.
Its only a short trip, so cabin baggage may suffice (which would remove these questions) - but looks like only one cabin bag is allowed on DUB - LHR sector.

Any input from the experts would be welcomed.

Yes to the first 2 questions. If planning on cabin only baggage remember to factor in the initial MAN>DUB positioning flight as well. I used EI for that leg as I think that's your only option from MAN but remember FR fly from LPL to DUB too if that's any use to you.

Just to clarify @NorthernLad, if your daughter ensures that there is a stopover between arrival back at LHR and the last leg back to DUB, then they can't check bags all the way through from BOS to DUB, whereas if there isn't a stopover, they could technically insist on it (from other posts I've read).

Thanks very much for those late evening replies Mitcha & Bretty. Trip booked at a nice saving over expected cost.
She will now have some money left over to join us on part of our trip in February!
Maybe also from Dublin.

1) If you overnight in Heathrow (which seems sensible given you'd be doing two flights MAN-DUB DUB-LHR before getting there), you'd perhaps not get it checked through to BOS. We asked not to, and there are varying reports on overnight storage of connecting bags.. So you might be forced to not check it in, if staying overnight.

2) No. Not without a penalty. If this is about dropping the last leg, see if you can book from Gatwick or City for the last hop. Though to be fair, if Manchester is your final destination, its not that out of the way to do DUB, the people dropping the last leg are often londoners...

I've had to bump this to ask a question regarding my DUB trip. I've only put my VS FC number in when booking (and made sure it linked on the VS site), but no EI or BA numbers.

Is there going to be a problem or should i have left the FC numbers out during booking?

No problem at all. Just means if you want to claim the EI and BA miles at a later date you'll have to use the EI/BA 'missing miles' processes as appropriate.

I have a grand total of zero BA/EI miles so i dont know what to do with them :D

Also, i have a positioning flight into DUB to arrive 2 hours early (with EI) before i fly back to LHR. IS that enough time?

Fusion - in theory it would, but it doesn't give much wiggle room in case of a delay or something going belly up with the positioning flight. If something were to go wrong and you missed your first sector to LHR, you face the whole itinerary being cancelled. I'd work in as much time as you possibly can! Can always hang out in Dublin for the day if you have a lot of time on your hands!

fusionblue wrote:It's actually 2 hours 40 (not 2 hours as i thought!).... Not sure if that would make much of a difference?

Are both of your flights with EI? If so, you can check in for both at the same time doing OLCI. Even if you can't do this, it should not be a problem. Dublin is a compact airport and the difference between terminals is marginal. For example, if your positioning flight is on EI and your return flight is on BA, you will arrive in T2 and depart in T1 which are linked and a 5 minute walk is the least I would expect. If they are both on EI/BA you are talking about the same terminal and thus no problems

Both LON-DUB and DUB-LON are on EI, so it should be the same terminal in and back out. IT will cost me £38 extra to land at 1030 instead of 1310 (giving me three extra hours). Not sure if that's worth it?

Do you have luggage? Because that will take time to be off loaded, you to collect and then re-check it and any delay could eat into that time as well.

The connecting LHR-BOS is the next day (and VS confirmed i can drop off luggage there), so i wont be taking luggage to DUB to start.

As a precaution i've paid the £38 and moved it back so i arrive into DUB at 1030.
