Absolutely nothing, just brush off the snobbish comments about clothing. People should wear what they feel comfortable in and damn the rest.

On my first PE flight to SFO I was upgrade, back in 1996, to the upper deck UC with the big old comfy cloth seats. I have also been upgraded prior to check in and seen that online. But both of there were years ago.

This is an area VS should look into a little more and take a look at how US airlines incentivize their frequent fliers.

Mmm, quite an interesting thread :)

Having read all the posts so far, for what it's worth this is my take on the issue. If you have paid for an UC ticket then by my reckoning, you have paid for the right to wear what the hell you like( with perhaps the exception of your birthday suit :0 )
If on the other hand you are lucky enough for an op-up then I'm afraid you play by the airlines rules, or if you're daft enough you don't accept the upgrade :?

Hope you don't bump into me on BA F :D
I do travel a little smarter in J and WT+ hoping for an OPUP.

I think I would have rushed off to the nearest clothes shop in the terminal and just bought a pair.

For my miles outbound upgrade a couple of weeks ago I still had to pay £45 for the 3 of us because of the tax differences between P/E and U/C.

I think my mother would have flung open the case and made me change there and then !

It is a pity that Burberry has had such bad press, it, along with Aquascutum have produced some excellent clothes over the years. It was a fashion label to aspire to in my youth, later I was fortunate enough to be able to afford a Burberry Trench Raincoat. Currently I have one of these although is a slightly larger size. (Ahem, the original must have shrunk?) I also have a hat and a scarf.

Whether you like the brand or loathe it, the do make some excellent rainware.

This is the general perception of Burberry:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=burberry

You can also google Burberry and Chav y)

Also when it was 'big' the market was flooded with good fakes.

If you're happy with Burberry then that's honestly fine by me and should be by anyone else too, you should always wear what you're happy with and it's not my place to 'tell' you it's wrong to wear. I'm just pointing out the general perception of Burberry. Stone Island came along to join Burberry too; Henleys has a similar perception but just looks plain awful anyway and is at the lower end of the market in terms of price. Ed Hardy - don't get me started :D

Horrible. it should be removed immediately! :|

It's not so much Burberry that I don't like - it's that particular beige tartan pattern they have - and the associations that go with it. Also beige should never be worn as clothing. ever. :D I'm sure their plain coloured coats are great.

Tell that to the 75% older population for whom it seems to be de riguer especially in summer and on holiday ii)

I, of course, nudging into that age group would never wear beige. Instead I wear stone, taupe, natural, oatmeal, biscuit, mushroom, cream - the colours I hasten to add, not the foodstuffs (although it is entirely likely that in a decade or so I will also be wearing the foodstuffs!)

You would be surprised what some people will do with a credit card...
Though most the "burberry" Chavs and Chavettes wear is fake. Costing a few pounds.

Oh no, you have to be careful what you ask for !

Here I am in the lounge in St Lucia (in my nice RL polo top, but jeans and trainers !). When I checked in , it was a nice surprise. 'Hello Mr S we have upgraded you today'. (I guess because it is a LHR 747 config 3 so much more U/C)

After I picked myself off the floor I realised that they had not upgraded Mrs S or Miss S !!!!!!!!

I asked to be put back down to P/E (I do beleive in the old adage that if you all can't do something then no-one does it. That is me and the way I was brought up, but I know others see it differently).

Unfortunately, there is no room in P/E so I cannot join them.

I am hoping that something crops up for them in the next hour or so otherwise it is going to be bread and dripping for me over the next few weeks even though it is not my fault.

Not sure I can complain about being upgraded !!!!

Actually Bazz, Aquascutum is having a bit of a revival and they are making some lovely bags :D. I too had some lovely bits of Burberry (raincoat included) many years ago- shame they decamped to the Far East v( .
Nothing wrong with Ed Hardy either or Decker's dress sense v( v( .
My view is that if I've paid for a ticket in UC (which I do), I'm entitled to wear what I wish (and I have worn my Ed Hardy hoodie :) ). The only real issue I have is with clothing which has offensive graphics (notably stuff made by a company which perports to have Gallic links).

That was one of the points I was trying to make and is why the label has a bad image over here. There were/are lots of cheap but good fakes around and the situation Hamster described occured.

As for Ed Hardy :D

True Religion jeans get a mention too but I confess to being a fan of their jeans :0 :D

Please don't get upset over this I'm just having a bit of fun with the urban dictionary stuff. y)

I don't think the system works that way - they upgraded a specific person and he then can't give that seat to someone else.

Well I do actually, and am rather offended by your post :(! . Mr DL was born and raised in "council owned housing" and knows the true meaning of "being poor" . His parents still live in "council owned housing" through choice (they love their bungalow and neighbours) despite our offers of buying them a property elsewhere.
They have no debt whatsoever and no credit cards (and have more money in the bank than Mr DL and I have) - it's a generational thing (and one I think admirable).
