But can you guest or are you looking for an invite?

With more than 2000 posts in just 2 years, I think you will find joeyc in the clubhouse already :D

I dunno -- some people prefer to lurk and learn, others post copiously (which to my mind isn't necessarily the same as contributing!). I've been asked politely for CH invites on a few occasions (before the rules changed) by people who had very rarely posted, and have always been happy to oblige (no photos involved, I hasten to add). Usually I find it doesn't actually happen for whatever reason, but it is such a nice gesture to brighten up an otherwise dreary wait in an airport.

This thread really has opened up diverse opinion behind the comic comments. at240 has a point that some poeple do prefer to lurk and learn for a while before then joining up and joining in. Whiterose also has a point that one shouldn't join any club or society etc and instantly expect to have access to one of the rarer benefits.

It's clear some of us have differing opinions, and I love the fact that those different opinions are welcome here, there's plenty of places online where they wouldn't be.

If the OP is still lurking, please stick around and contribute, tell us how your trip goes in June, provide a trip report to give feedback on the VS experience, we'd love to read about it.

Interesting one.

I feel a sense of responsibility for the behaviour of anyone I invite into a clubhouse/lounge of any sort. If they abuse the facility, overdo the booze and upchuck over people then ultimately that is down to me.

For that reason there are people I REALLY know (as in real life) who I would not choose to invite in. So inviting people I don't know at all is a No No.

However, I would happily invite some regular contributors on here as I feel I do "know" them. And I say "some" because there are other regular contributors who I wouldn't invite in on a month of Sundays. Different strokes for different folks.

And those V-Flyers I have met, eminent all, have been as I imagined and great company.

FWIW I felt as if the " haters" remark was directed towards me and several others and thought it rude and uneccessary. Even though the OP then made light of it saying it was "all in jest" and urging that we " lighten up" I think it unwise to make such posts when new on a forum ( albeit a particilarly friendly and generally tolerant one such as this).
There were a spate of requests for CH access such as this a few years back to which I ( and others) posted similar responses.
I'm not churlish - last night I guested a chap who was on the BA flight back to Blighty into the Sala VIP lounge at AGP (he had his card out and was about to pay for access when I arrived behind him). The key factor for me was that he was willing to pay for his own access and would have happily done so if I hadn't offered.

I only wanted to do this as a treat for my best friend as it's her birthday

Maybe this would suit your needs?

Hello!

I'll keep out of the ethics on this one, only to muddy the waters by putting in another ethical & legal query.

(Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting/condoning/"hating-on" this idea as a reality, I'm just curious in the hypothetical)

Would it a) be legal, and if so b) ethical for an UC-flyer or AU member to sell clubhouse access to rosiej83 (assuming everyone on the same flight etc)?

(Sharp intake of breath) ooooohhhhh, that is a doozy. I'm no legal expert, but would say that legally it's not the passenger's product / service to sell. It is a fringe benefit of buying a ticket or being a frequent flyer with highest status, so am not sure it would be legal. I'm pretty certain that it would be considered unethical either way, or at least, I would consider it so.

Where is the OP BTW? She appears to have abandoned ship and lost interest since being told 'no'.

Unless otherwise invited or paying for admission, access to the clubhouse of course comes with the production of an appropriate boarding pass or the production of a gold card.

Legal? Unethical? Who knows. However you are trying to sell/transfer something which is a perk specific to you.

As currently organised, the person you sold your access to would need to be pretending to be you...having ticket/card etc all in your name. It is already beginning to sound like more trouble than it is worth.

And chaos would ensue if and when further proof of identity was requested!!! And it happens, a number of lounges I have attended in recent times have asked for my passport as well as bp/gold card. And I don't look that bad...honest!!!

Sorry to use this thread for a question of my own but I don't think it is worth starting a new thread for.
Here goes can I still buy clubhouse access for £60 and if so can I then guest my wife in?
(my god I am such a novice ii) )
Or is it all now done with the new guest list product :)

I think you can still buy access if travelling with Virgin Holidays, subject to availability/space but it would be £60 each

As above, its about £60 each if you booked through VH - each with no guest allowance - but worth every penny IMO..!

I did this last month for a holiday to JFK and it was brilliant.

Alternatively - and if you have the bottle you could rock up on the day and see if they will let you pay to get it. It has been done before and you could get lucky?!

That's a good idea I will do that thanks y)

You can still buy access if your flight is booked direct through VS. You just have to ask on the day at check in, it isn't pre-bookable and is subject space, so be prepared for a no, but quite often the answer will be a yes.

You cannot however buy one access and then guest another pax in, you would have to buy two passes, unless of course you are flying UC or an Au card holder.

I read that slightly different. Not selling your own access but the right to guest in. IE instead of paying GBP60 to access the lounge could somebody just ask for GBP40 and arrange to meet the guest beforehand?? Absolutely not suggesting anyone on here would do this, but an interesting question/situation non the less

My bad, your reading makes much more sense.

In which case, if it is both legal and ethical to invite a stranger into the clubhouse I can see absolutely no reason why you shouldn't charge them £50 for the privilege.

Yes! Sorry if I was unclear, but enjoyingit (and HWVlover second time around) have the right reading of my post. I suppose it might be: is it legal/ethical for UC/AU to undercut the £60 "standard" fee by guesting-in at anything from £1 to 59?
