Recently flew to Miami in UC.

Food was average.
I had the avocado on toast with smoke salmon. Toast was hard, and I mean really hard.

Then I had duck , potatoes were nice but duck very fatty, chewy, and again hard to cut.

The dark chocolate and morello cherry délice was nice.

I don’t eat much on the flight anyway. Was dreaming of my food in the clubhouse: Mojito, croissant with smoked trout and camembert cheese

I had the spiced lamb burger on the way home from MCO. That burger bun is very chewy... I've never experienced anything quite like that.

Half the cabin seemed to be having the "holiday dinner" when I came back on VS4 last night.

Feedback to the crew seemed to be that it was dry....but I quite enjoyed it!

Maybe they've taken the feedback on everything drenched in sauce?!

Seems to be only on the return flights at the moment - got it as an option for VS4 next week. One of the crew was flying as pax on my flight yesterday and we were chatting with the FSM about the meals while waiting for a pre-landing bathroom trip. It's apparently worth choosing! Motivated me to pick it for next week, and try again today when it kept giving me an error message yesterday.

Had the holiday dinner, the meat was pretty good but not a lot of it, a 1/4 of the plate was just cranberry sauce, also odd having toast plus mashed potatoes with just two small carrots.

I've been having technical difficulties for the last week being unable to choose a Pre-Select meal. Anyone else experiencing the same?

Granted we've (fingers crossed) the bassinet so we don't have our seats allocated yet, but we've had the same in premium before and I've been able to successfully choose a meal. We used miles to upgrade but again, I've had the same in premium.

I just get the following message:

"We're having some tech issues and weren't able to place your order. Please try again later. If you still have no luck, never fear. We’ll have a great selection onboard...you definitely won’t go hungry."

:-(

Had that in my last couple of outgoing flights, never had the problem on incoming.

Had it when I tried in the evening New York time, but worked when I tried the next morning!

(Got the festive turkey meal which was actually tasty)

Take onboard meal from Pret a Manger then... & 8k points when you complain to the FSM about the rubbish menu offering / having to take your own food when in Upper.

Despite me having stood up for VS a few times re the menu, that is a truly shocking offering.

The chicken and mushroom pie is awful. It's the worst microwave pie I think I've ever had, soggy and tastes of excess flour.

Thanks for the info - changed my selection to the Girasoli now. I had the cod in October which was OK but I just felt like a change this time.

I would've thought that all flights leaving LHR would have the option to pre-order or is it only certain routes? Flying to Mumbai in a few days and no email to notify about pre-ordering nor can I see the option in MMB

You won’t see anything in your booking. You need to enter your booking reference into https://preselect.virginatlantic.com to pre-order your meal from 7 days in advance upto 24hrs before departure.

Oh ffs totally missed the window then. Very annoying. Why would it not be in the obvious place rather than a random link that I have to go looking for . No email to prompt either.

I've pretty much always had an email advising of pre-order being available at T-7 days. If only doing a 7 night stop in Orlando you often have the email for your return flight pre-order when you arrive in Florida, or the next morning at the latest. Check your Spam / Junk email folders (depending on your email provider) as the emails generally do go out.

No email in junk or inbox. The two of us are on separate bookings and no emails for either of us. One is booked via a work travel agency so maybe that's the reason for lack of email but the other is booked direct and I would've expected an email. Disappointing to say the least. Mentioned it in the clubhouse and the lovely lady called the FSM and asked her to take our orders first, which I am glad she did as there were only two of the main option we both wanted. And zero choice for the starter because they didn't load any prawns >-( >-(

Regarding emails received from VS about upcoming flights. I'm flying Saturday and I've had several emails from VS regarding my up-coming flight(s) with at least 2 of them containing links to the menu pre-order page.

1) Email sent 14 days in advance with subject line Your Travel checklist mentioning things like ESTA, baggage, OLCI etc.
2) Email regarding menus sent 10 days before departure with subject line Something tasty inside... with a link to pre-order from the menu (though you can only do this from 7 days before departure).
3) Email sent 5 days before departure with subject line Only 5 days to go until your flight to xxx - this also contained another link to the preselect menus along with info regarding the Upper Class cabin, seat and airport lounges etc.
4) (forgot this one) Email received informing me I can check-in online (which usually arrives after OLCI opens at T-24Hrs)

Emails 1 +2 also received from the return flight as well so far.

I generally get 6-8 emails from VS for every round trip. All my bookings are made directly with VS. I also get an email from VS around 5 days after making a booking reminding me to select my seat.

I have also create a sticky / locked post at the top of this forum with a link to pre-order here

Has anyone flying Upper had any luck in requesting a different started. I can't eat prawn or cauliflower. Could they get me one from PE?

If you're in upper and want something from Economy or Premium the crew usually oblige.

I'm sick to death of the Upper menu on my west coast routes and the crew have no problem getting me something from Premium when I ask.
