So being purely selfish I hope my flight gets cancelled by VS so I can get my money back (we're on a Z ticket) and we'll rebook later in the year. If the flight isn't cancelled we have a very hard decision to make that could cost us £3K+

I know where you are coming from, I fly out on 7th May (z fare)and the longer this drags on the more uncomfortable I'm feeling about flying (although I am a nervous flyer at the best of times!), not only from a potential delay back home, but reading a certain 'pilots' forum hasn't helped in this instance as I'm now getting myself worked up about planes flying once the cloud has lifted, particularly as one individual reckons we'll see a lot of engine failures in the coming weeks :0

I'm going to take a decision next week, whether or not planes are flying, and if I lose my £1,800 then sobeit.

BBC News reporting that BA are planning to land 12 aircraft at LHR tonight, the first in about 30 minutes. BBC pitching this as a stand off between ATC and BA. Be very interesting to see if anything lands at Heathrow tonight.

CAA have confirmed that no British Airways flights will be permitted to land at LHR this evening. All flights being diverted to BRU or AMS, currently breaking on BBC News.

CAA reportedly not happy at all with BA using bully boy tactics.

CAA saying flights may be able to land from 1am tomorrow morning (so from whenever the LHR curfew stops).

Boo to the CAA and NATS, they've all lost their heads. I'm with BA - go BA, win them over!

Oh, and according to Plane Finder on my iPhone BA10 from BKK has just landed at Heathrow!

There is a huge amount of confusion. Sky are covering this now.

NATS said that UK Airspace will not re-open.

Lord Adonis has now said that NATS are incorrect and the flights will be staggered from 10pm. CAA now saying will re-open at 10pm.

First inbound aircraft is a BA flights from LAX according to Calder on Sky News.

Calder is saying that the reason for this is because the UK was becoming a "minority of one refusing to allow aircraft in", it was according to Calder, embarrassing that BA had to have aircraft diverted to BRU and SNN this evening.

CAA saying airlines must carry out on test flights and ash inspection of aircraft.

EDIT: CAA Chair and Lord Adonis have now made a statement (currently being played on SKy) stating that UK Airspace will re-open from 10pm this evening. New guidance is being released covering both UK and Eire. Airspace will be opened in phases and there will continue to be some no fly zones but much smaller than current restrictions and do not currently cover the UK. CAA wants to emphasise that having people in the air is their aim.

BA284 from SFO has been circling off the west coast of Ireland for nearly an hour now! I'm sure they have been very "generous" with fuel loads... Not sure they'll manage another hour and a half though!
