Has anyone experienced this? It works if I choose Heathrow - Dublin but I really would like to avoid any baggage issues.

Thanks.

It may be because no airline offers a business class product between LGW & DUB so if you search for an all-business class itinerary involving a leg from LGW it can't find one because no such fare exists.

Try LCY instead, where BA does offer a Club Europe cabin to DUB.

The option for Gatwick is right there on the screen, it's with economy, but when I selected to go through and pay for the flights the error occurred.

Unfortunately, the multi city option never works for me so I can't manually choose City Airport.

Any tips on getting the multi city option to work? It always says no flights found.

What flights/dates etc are you trying to book?

Hi, looking at the following:

14/02 - Dublin to London (any airport is fine, evening flight)

15/02 - LHR - MIA

22/02 - MIA - LHR

22/02 - LGW - DUB

My search using the non multi option brings up these choices however I can't seem to actually proceed and book. It's as though the booking system is rejecting it.

Thanks!

I've searched assuming you want Upper Class for one person.

Expedia shows a ticket priced at just over £900, with the return to DUB being from LGW on a BA ticket, however this won't book. I also couldn't find this on the ITA matrix.

The same set of flights, but with an Aer Lingus ticket on the same DUB-LGW flight is coming in at just shy of £2k.

I would suggest the reason you are having issue is because the fare is not really available.

Many thanks for checking. I'm glad to know it wasn't me making a mistake!

Looks like I will have to book the final leg from Heathrow with an 8 hour stopover and take the gamble they will allow me to short check my bag.

In a real situation surely they cannot refuse people access to their bags for 8 hours. One could have a hotel booked or a local friend etc.

Decided to book my flights with the final leg leaving Heathrow 8 hours after arrival. Shouldn't be a problem with short checking bags, revivals etc.

I need to book my positioning flight to Dublin, only choice seems to be a BA flight, which is the same airline as my first leg Ex Dub trip.

Would this raise any suspicions with BA if I'm booked with them to to fly out to Dublin, only to return a few hours later with them on the same day to begin my trip to the USA. Any one done with the same airline?

Thanks

Absolutely not an issue, you're doing nothing wrong!

The only "naughty" bit is dropping the final leg but the chances of any repercussions are very very slim. BA seem to be going after the travel agents who facilitate it rather than the passengers who actually do it and I doubt VS would either know or care if you're a no-show for a BA flight.

Hi all

Just booked our 1st Ex-DUB trip to the west coast in July, our flight from Dublin to heathrow is with BA. It states that we are in business class does that mean I can book my seats with BA for free, or do we have to wait -24 before departure. I have already done this with our flight with virgin to the west coast.

Forgot to ask can we check in at club Europe and get to go to a lounge in Dublin?

So looking forward to this now after not been in upper for 2 years

Sharon

BA only offer free seat reservations at time of booking to their silver and gold BAEC members I'm afraid so if you don't have status you'll have to wait until T-24 or pay. For a flight that only lasts an hour it really doesn't matter though IMHO. And in Club Europe you're guaranteed an aisle or a window seat with the middle seat left empty.

Yes you can use Business Class check-in at DUB as well as fast track security, and you'll have access to the underwhelming DAA executive lounge.

On my ex-CPH I got allocated seats and the ability to change them on the CPH-LHR and LHR-CPH legs.

But on the LHR-JFK leg I got immediate free seat booking on AA (the leg that was then cancelled) as AA offers free seat requests.

I could select a seat on the BA operated JFK-LHR leg 7 days in advance due to my bronze status.

It's to do with the short hop flights being in the full fat J fare bucket but the TATLs being in a different one.

When I did my ex-DUB in July I also got seat selection on the short hops but had to wait until OLCI opened for the TATLs (no status then)

Just adding my own recent experience, flew DUB(EI)-LHR-LAX just before Christmas then checked in for return on Sunday. My wife had to get off in London because of a family emergency and asked if she could just check her bag to LHR, while my bag would be checked through to DUB. Check in staff refused to short check her bag, supervisor got involved and called ticketing who quoted well over 1000 Euro to amend the ticket. Easily solved though, I just checked both bags through in my name and she jumped ship at LHR while I went on to DUB without any problem (apart from struggling home to Belfast with two heavy suitcases!).

Sadly I think that this will all come to an end soon whether you can short-check bags or not. It is too well known over the internet now.

Having said that, I never seem to find a bargain like some people ! As an example looking at trying the ex-DUB with 18/11 DUB-LGW, 19/11 LGW-LAS, 24/11 LAS-LGW, 25/11 LGW-DUB and not able to get UC to display on expedia.co.uk if I select "business". Am I missing something?

We are flying back in Upper to Manchester from Orlando in May , we arrive back in the UK on Friday morning 07.15am, but our onward flight to Brussels (which we are not taking) doesn't leave until the following day ie Saturday at 06.30am. Will they only check our bags to Manchester ?

Thanks,

Steve

Expedia can be a bit temperamental for VS ex-EUs. Try ebookers or STA.

As for ex-EU coming to an end - the cheap(er) fares will continue as long as British airlines need to compete with EU rivals that offer more convenient direct flights from hubs like DUB, AMS, BRU & CPH.

What they ARE trying to stop is people who drop the final leg to get a cheap(er) fare. Either by refusing to short check bags (which you can easily get round by booking the right flight combo) or - as BA is doing - penalising travel agents whose customers do it.

Looking at prices for an ex-Dub one way ticket in E to CUN, have been using Skyscanner and set the location to Ireland and have seen some decent prices on BA and VS via sites like budgetair.ie and vayama.ie would rather not go through them, if i contacted the airlines directly would they match the prices?

How long was your layover gap in between flights?

Yes it does look to work with DL on the DUB>SEA route as if you look at Google Flights, it goes as low at £797 in November from DUB, though it's a 2 stop flight via AMS.

hello,

I am looking at booking a ex-eu from DUB-MIA via LHR and at the moment all that is coming up are flights on the day from Dublin but i would like to start our trip by flying the day before and then having the night before our Miami flight. Now when i have done this before it has always come up on the booking page as an option to start the trip the day before but for this one we don't have that option. Does anybody know how to start our trip from DUB-LHR the day before the MIA flight? Also how to make sure we have 24 hours before our flight back to Dublin which we will not be taking so our bags are tagged back to LHR, at the moment it's just flights back on the day and not the day after?

Many thanks, GasMonkey98

You've managed to skip the very basic bargain thing, which is "always be flexible", you've got set days for that.

I try those dates and yep, 1.5K minimum. I go to the ita matrix, choose November, say 6-8 days, and I get:

DUB-PHL-LAS and back 22-28th of November, on AA via Philadelphia (one hop there and back), 700-750 quid. Gets you BA silver status too, at 700 tps.

I tweak it to make it Virgin/BA combo, and it disappears. I go back and look at options, and see Aer Lingus/VS via Manchester for 759 quid.

I think that period of November seems to usually be in the sales, the rest excluded. So you may well find that being much better next ba ex-Dub sale...
