The pie

I have been lucky enough to to have had it a fair few times and each time it has been totally delicious only beaten by the excellent Christmas dinner I had on 24 Dec.

I think I will have the pie again on forthcoming flight ! (As well as soup as a starter as it’s damn fine too !)

We just did LHR-LAS returns. Food on the way out was bland (my OH said the chicken pie was dreadful), food on the way back was absolutely disgusting! My OH had the chicken, the chicken was "OK" but it was on some weird bed of indeterminate slime. He avoided starters as didn't like the sound of either of them. I wish I did the same; I tried the pumpkin tart  Honestly, I am not a picky eater AT ALL but this thing was awful. Sugary, cardboard like pastry filled with overly sweetened pumpkin goo, garnished with dried out raw carrot and a cold, overcooked sprout. Do they taste test these monstrosities prior to releasing them on an unsuspecting public? My main was a mushroom ravioli which was an economy quality meal plated a bit (not a lot) better. Didn't bother with dessert. My husband had the cheese, a fairly basic selection.

I now fly out of MAN later this week and can confirm it's still the very limited menu. Luckily there was a soup and toastie option I've chosen instead.

I had the pie, it was very meh, I ate about half of it. On the same route next week so will try the curry in the hope of it not being so bad. VS food really is inoffensive at best these days. BA's investment in using D&CO has really paid off.

Supposed to fly next Thursday and thinking of the lamb too. Pie sounds too hit and miss, don't like fish and don't want veggie particularly. My pork on VS3 in December was horrible which also manages to make me doubt the duck.

Had lamb dahwalla yesterday. Looked like something a labrador would vomit up, tasted just OK. Know people aren't fans of things drowning in sauce, but mine had essentially none. Some oily sides. Wouldn't order again. Stupidly forgot I had pear tart last time and ordered that instead of chocolate delice. Didn't really matter since I left the Clubhouse full, but I do wish they'd up the standards. They announced that the main was sausage and mash (think in economy) and I was SO JEALOUS

Sorry to dredge up a months-old thread, but I wondered what the chicken and mushroom pie is like - is it a creamy pie or more of a chicken gravy? I don’t do well with creamy sauces so trying to make a decision for my upcoming flight. From MAN so few options…

Thanks for any help :)

the pastry was soggy and put me off the filling

The pastry is not really of concern to me - could you tell me more about the filling? What was the basis of that? Thank you!

Unless you’re flying in the next week or so, the pie likely won’t be an option as the new Summer 2025 menu is coming in May.

I'm flying on Sunday - sadly will miss out on the new menu!

Looks like no mire light bites menu at all - only the Afternoon tea being served before landing now in UC. Disappointing.

I suspect the above menu(s) could just be a test / trial on just that route. I'd be very surprised if that is the only choice for the second meal service in J!

You can change the flight number at the end of the link to any VS flight and similar menus show. None of which have light bites any more

We fly out to Miami this Friday and choices were Curry or Fish Goujons - no mention of a pie or sausage.

Well I have had my pre-order email through for a flight on Monday 5th May. System seems to be working fine, at least as far as the choice stage. And they are:

Grapefruit and miso chicken
Pan roasted haddock
Minted pea tortelloni
Nigerian style chicken curry
Pan fried tilapia
Chicken karahi
Paneel tawa masala
Tomato soup (& toastie I presume, there is one in the pic)
*Maple and miso glazed pork belly
*Seared tofu with teriyaki glaze
*Chicken caesar salad
*Kabsa chicken

Dishes with * are 'online pre order exclusive.'

Bonus points for getting no less than four curry or curry-style dishes on one menu.

As the moment I am tossing up between the Chicken Karahi or the Kabsa Chicken. Thoughts?

And I’ll be upset if there’s no light bites…afternoon tea has a time and a place and it’s not on an aeroplane in my view.

New menu started May 1st. No lite bites to the states. Afternoon tea is back. Yum. Shame you’ll get upset, life’s too short.

Flew out on Friday on the VS25.

I had the Soup, and the Nigerian Curry pre-select and tbh neither were great.

Mile High Tea in Upper was good the menu cards for it are fun and it was deffo substantial enough as a second meal.

Flying back from MCO next Monday and the website won't allow me to pre-book meals. Haven't seen this before. Does it happen often. Thanks.

Not quite sure the reason for the snark, but having had the new afternoon tea yesterday I definitely preferred the previous choice of something hot and savoury. In my view this was one of the things that Virgin did much better than BA (who have been forcing the choice of "afternoon tea or afternoon tea" down people's throats on transatlantic routes for decades). One could argue that Virgin is worse than BA to the west coast now, because with BA you get a proper second meal in Club.

On my JFK bound flight on Wednesday I have chosen the Grapefruit and Miso chicken, and my partner has chosen Nigerian Style chicken curry.

Saying that, I might not eat it and just have the starter and dessert as I normally do.

Don't suppose any has had the panko encrusted cod in premium have they? Tempted to order it for my kid because the last time we ordered a kids meal is a disgrace. The problem is she won't have the tartare sauce, so I'm trying to find out if it is already on the fish when its loaded on the aircraft?
