Hi All
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but i have trawled through the site and can't find any reference to it.
What seats are best for couples in UC on the A346?
My wife and i are travelling to JNB in Aug and we have booked 4/5 K. Am not sure whether to keep these, or move to the A & D seats! She has never sat in the suites before - only J2000 config.
Any thoughts or ideas please

Cheers

This is going to be down to personal preference. on a 343 (UCS) and a 346 my preference is 4/5 K. You get the privacy of being faced by the 'wall' but are still behind one another. You have to remember that for most of the flight you will not be able to see each other unless you sit up. If you like the site of each other may A/D or G/K combo would be better.

Personally, me and the other half now go for 2 window seats side by side (e.g. 4/5K) as we find it easier to talk to each other. One has to turn backwards or another lean forwards but you are physically closer to each other. We are long past seeing what each other is eating/drinking or whether if the other one is sleeping/reading. You can choose to eat together on one table with the one of you sitting on the ottoman/footrest which has it own seat-belt if you want to gaze into each other eyes romantically as you dine.

There is quiet a distance betwen A/D seats or G/K seats with the aisle in-between so you tend to shout a bit much to the annoyance of other passengers. However, you do get the direct eye contact if that is you preference.

If you are travelling with a child, then I would say the A/D seats or G/K seats would be better since you can keep a constant eye on the child without any neck-ache.

For what it is worth, the overhead cabin lockers are over A and K seats only. No cabin lockers over the middle D/G seats. I would only choose 2 middle seats, side by side, as a last resort. D/G passengers put their bags in the cabin lockers over A/K but it is less convinient to access.

Hi Zambandit,
Don't you just love the planning aspect of sitting in UC?:D Not too many poor choices.

If you have a look at V-Flyer's detailed seat ratings for the Airbus 340-600 Suite I think you'll get quite a bit of useful input on where you and your other half will most enjoy sitting. Also, keep in mind that rows 2-7 are the "snooze zone" on overnight flights in the 600.

Photos taken by our flyers of the A346 UCS cabins are available here.

the snooze zone applies to east coast USA flights into LHR - but not on the JNB flights.

Hi All
Thanks for all your comments - i think i will stick with 4/5K!

Yeah Chuck - quite right on the seat choices - not too much hardship on the choice (especially as our kids are travelling in economy with some of their friends and parents to keep an eye on them!!)

Richard 28 - i didn't realise there wasn't a snooze jone on the VS 601 / 602! I suppose it is lights out soon after the meal service?

Cheers

This one is is a tricky one. The problem is that as opposed to the B744 there is no section where seats are back to back with a removable partition.

On A346 you can sit oppisite in 2 - 6 a/d or 8 - 16 g/k

if you want to sit side by side then any window seat is the same avoid 7 and 8 as there is a dividiing curtain for flights where snooze zone is effective.

but whereever you sit dont forget you can ask the Cabin crew if you can dine together at one table, its a little more cramped but something (to my knowledge) no other airline offers

Richard,
Thanks very much -- good catch.[y] Hadn't read closely enough to see the "JNB".

Snooze zone means lights out after the seat belt sign goes off and the cabin crew frantically rush around to do everyone's bed up. No meals are served in the zone meal (yes this is Upper Class but these passengers pay for the privilege of eating in the lounge before the flight and again in the arrivals lounge after the flight and sleeping flat throughout the flight). If you are in the snooze zone and you want to eat dinner and/or breakfast, you have to sit at the bar!

Limited supper menu on snooze zone flights but only if you are seated in non-snooze zone area! Normal "breakfast in bed" menu (i.e. you tick your breakfast card like at a hotel and your food tray appears after they wake you up)

Cheers Chuck, always happy to help [y]

No, the JNB flights do not have snooze zone, they get the full freedom menu service ("good night flight" service got removed from the JNB services last month)

I have done a search, but it either times out or can't find anything.

Just booked my first Upper Class flight, which will be in an A346. Sat in 8A at the moment. I'm on my own (no one to go with [:(]) so is this a decent seat? I was pondering moving back a bit more, nearer the bar and so I can get out quicker, in case the flight is delayed and I'm in a rush for my connecting flight.

TIA.

Seat 8A on the A346's should be OK. I've sat in 12A in the past on an A346. Pretty sure that the 'A' seats 7A - 17A get the wall in front of you so you are not facing anyone.

I prefer to sit facing a wall rather than a person on the A340's when flying in J (but that's just me). Rows 2K - 7K also face the wall but beware of 2K as it's pretty close to a washroom.
