PERSONAL DVD PLAYERS

I have just seen G-VGAL with Nova leave for MCO today and having read how LHR planes get the best IFE via Vport and the general lower service level on MAN flights, would it be out of the question for Virgin to offer personal DVD players and a range of DVDs to UC pasengers? This is how AA do it on their MAN flights and considering the lower number of passengers in UC on MAN flights, it wouldn`t exactly break SRBs bank account.
All other airlines I have flown offer a better IFE product in BC but Virgin MAN flights don`t appear to. Am I missing something here or is this correct?

I'm sure it's a good idea in principal but in reality it proposes several problems. Nova has 10 (?? I'm not really that familiar with the system) channels so you would need 10 DVDs per person to avoid disappointment if the selection was to be on par with the IFE.
However, you could advertise that pax bring their own DVDs for watching in-flight or use a "multimedia player" which could store the movies on it without the need for separate DVDs for each passenger.

The AA flight gave approx 20 DVDs in a wallet ranging from latest films to classic ones, Travel documentaries etc. Screen was about 10" or so and came with Bose headphones. Eveything was collected back at the end of the flight. There was an interesting comment written on the front of the wallet. It said " Don`t even try to use your own DVDs, they just won`t work"

Air France give you a wallet with about 18 movies too.

"We believe that all of our entertainment systems offered onboard are innovative and offer a wide variety of choice. NOVA currently offers 11 blockbuster movies, including 2 dedicated kids movies, 6 Virgin TV channels and 14 audio channels.
We do have DVD players onboard with a choice of 24 DVDs, (20 movies and 4 TV programmes). These DVD players are given to passengers who may be experiencing problems with their IFE system, or are hard of hearing. Nevertheless, I would recommend requesting a DVD player from a member of our cabin crew upon boarding the aircraft, who I am sure will be able to assist".

Here is a suggestion. Use your laptop and rip your DVDs or download TV shows into iTunes. Works well. Also can transfer them to your video iPod.

VS used to offer personal Hi8 video players in UC a few years ago,I remember trying to watch Ronin on the tiny screen after a few too many drinks and feeling very[:$]:D
