What you have been told is correct, you don't need them. When you check your luggage they may put tags on that indicate your travel class, but that is all.
For security you should not write your address on a tag attached to the bag. It is far from unknown for people to have a look at your tags in the airport then go to your house and burgle it. Do use your V-flyer tag - this should have some contact details on it to enable you to be contacted should your luggage go missing. It is also a good idea to write your contact details on a piece of paper and put it on top of your luggage inside the bag - an added back up.
