Help! - With my reward booking

Talk about confused [?] I'm hoping some of the more seasoned Reward bookers will be able to help.

My wife and I have been invited to a wedding in December in South Africa which fortunately is a VS destination[y]

I have been looking at tickets on Jo'burg routes out UCS (as we will fly out on friday night before) returning on Sunday night via econ. This is mainly due to me having ~75k miles.

I have a couple of questions which I would like help on (if you don't mind):

1. Can I book the reward flight in my wifes name and revenue in mine (so I can earn TP and miles) ?

2. I have tried a dummy booking on VS.com using miles for flights and get to the select flights section which shows availability (I think). When selecting continue I get the not enough miles msg. This is because I have 600 miles short. I assume that if you get this far then there is reward availability, can anyone confirm this?

3. Could someone confirm my maths that 1 way UCS 1 way Y is 75k miles!

Finally, If I book both together via the FC I assume they will be ok with my being 600 miles short? Does anyone have any experience of this?

My brain is already fuzzy with choices available including:
Booking 2 x flex Y and upgrading
Booking 2 x flex PE and upgrading
Booking 1 tix and companion
Booking 1 x reward and 1 x rev

Have I missed any ![B)]

Hi Simon,

1. You're fine - I have done this before many times.
2. Yes if you are that far there is avail, but I would call up instead rather quickly as reward availaility for ZA is hard to come by in Dec normally.
3. Maths is correct

If youy call up they will probably allow the 600 surplus via an overdraft, esp with point 1 taken into consideration.

Also If you book your flight on a VS Credit card your more than repay your O/D in less than a month.
