Hi there,

On Tuesday, I am flying from Heathrow to JFK on the VS 003 and I was just wondering what my chances of getting Vport were? Which aircraft have Vport installed? Or if it is easier, which ones do not?

Thanks a lot,

Jack Harding

A warm welcome to V-Flyer.

All you need to know can be found in the reference pages of the site. Other than 'what plane will I be on?' [8D]:D

As a rule of thumb - planes out of LHR have V-Port. Planes out of LGW and MAN don't.

This page lists all the fleet's IFE.

Nick.

All Except the A340-300, But they generally don't fly to JFK.

Your Flight Will Most likely be V:Port, but if you wanted any type of aircraft the A340-600 [which i think goes to JFK], as it seems to offer more leg room, and provides a smoother flight [in my oppinion]!!
Good Luck:D

You might also find this tool helpful, as you can select your flight and it will give you which planes have been operating this route recently etc.

Thanks for all your help guys! Unfortunately, it dosen't look good for me on the Vport front. I have been using the website http://www.lhr-lgw.co.uk to look at which plaes have flown VS003, and for the past 6 days or so, G-VFAR (Diana) has flown the trip. This aircraft has Odyssey! Nooooo!

Its not a great % chance to be honest, only 36% chance of V-Port at the mo, although 10% of the 63% of Odyssey flights was flown by G-VxLG and she is now LGW/MAN config, all you can do is keep your fingers crossed, whatever IFE you have though, Im sure it will be a great flight

We arranged reward tickets for friends last month and the return leg on VS4 was on an A343

Sorry if this has been answered before but it has been stated on this forum before that the cost of fitting V:PORT is roughly £2m per aircraft so maybe that might be preventing VS from fitting it to LGW/MAN aircraft.

Also considering the intense usage of LGW/MAN aircraft VS really can't afford to have aircraft based for those duties out of action for too long...which some passengers will find out the hard way if their VS073/74 flights get unexpectedly cancelled in addition to the confirmed cancellations.

Insiders may know more but I reckon (along with a few other people) the only chance of LGW/MAN getting V:PORT is when the new PE seats get installed or when the new Economy seats eventually get launched, but until then it is NOVA or ODYSSEY.

I, like others and yourself, really want V:PORT to be given to LGW/MAN aircraft but I think that VS may think that some form of personal IFE rather than shared IFE or nowt at all is better than nothing. Having said that, a lot of the routes that VS operate out of LGW/MAN are in competition with charters which are now starting to raise their game (FCA, TOM et al to follow) so I reckon it would be £2m per craft well spent IMO.

Spare a thought for some of us on the ex-LHR routes who have to put up with the 343 too. It's not just the odd JFK flight: what was a new, shiny, V.Port equipped 346 on the IAD route (my usual these days) has now turned into a crummy old 343 with Odyssey.

At least ex-LGR/MAN you get a 747 (chiz, mone, drone ect).

I personally can't see VS installing V-Port onto any of the current MAN/LGW a/c - the only was I see these airports getting V-Port planes are as the new A346 enter the fleet, meaning some of the current LHR 744's move over to MAN/LGW config and the current MAN/LGW a/c leave the fleet. I imagine that eventually LHR will only be A343/A346 and the 744's will move over.

To a lot of the B&S pax Odyseey is still a very good IFE system and the average pax who go on hols once a year really won't know to much about the different available systems (I know this from personal experience when I go into full geek mode at work and get very bizarre looks at me!)

This is how I see it working out anyways
