Hi all,

I'm after some advice... :)

I'm looking at destinations for Honeymoon and at the moment we are thinking about South Africa (Cape Town & Safari) and then moving on to somewhere else outside of South Africa for a beach resort/relaxing time. We originally thought of Mauritius, but we will be going after the wedding at the start of March and weather is not so great there.

So, that makes us then think of Zanzibar or the Maldives. These are also both served by VH, but there are no VS flights between the locations.

To throw another item into the equation I wanted to use miles to upgrade our flights (where possible) to Upper Class. Again a problem as VS only goto Cape Town.

I spoke to VH who said that they cannot do flights to anywhere from Cape Town apart from to LHR or Mauritius.

So, does anyone know of a sensible way to get from Cape Town to Male for example via a partner airline? Would I be best to speak to VS re flights and then VH re accomodation? or would anyone have any other suggestions? :D

thanks,
G.

I don't think there are any direct flights from South Africa to the Maldives... so probably the closest routing would be via Dubai or Sri Lanka.

The Seychelles would be a good bet, outside of the Cyclone belt that threatens Mauritius in March though still in the rainy season... most likely to get a short sharp burst of rain each day, late afternoon.

Zanzibar will have similar weather to Mauritius in March.... so there is a chance of a Cyclone, as there is right up that coast.

For ease it might be worth considering Kenya's Coast, easy to fly to Mombassa, but again cyclones do hit that time of year.

Thanks for the prompt reply.... given some ideas there, hadn't considered using Dubai as a stop/changeover.

I guess i'd be best to ring VS to enquire about some flights and then deal with accomodation. I will need to work out the best use of my miles to upgrade too... any other ideas appreciated.

Have you checked out SAA and their schedules as they will give you points and miles?

Thanks for your suggestions... I will take a look at SAA. I think the thing that is a pain is that I wanted to use miles to pay for Upper Class upgrade, which if I was to do Cape Town -> Dubai -> Male -> LHR I would only be able to do to Cape Town.

I'll take a look, see what SAA have to offer.
