UC reward upgrades

I was looking to book a flight to HKG for next September and use points to upgrade from econ to UC but VA told me that there was very limited availability. In fact, there was only about four dates left for the outbound flight, none of which I could do. I wouldn't have minded so much but when I checked on-line to buy UC reward flights outright, there were stacks of 'G' fares left. I always thought that reward upgrades could be booked if 'G' fares were available but is that not the case?

You are correct, All UC reward booking use Fare bucket G regardless of whether your upgrading an existing ticket or creating a new miles only reward ticket.

If the website is showing availability call FC back and clarify that with them - You should be able to use that available G fare.

Thanks for that - will give it a try... Maybe the G tickets hadn't been released when I first phoned up but then that wouldn't explain why a tiny handful were available. Unless I just got through to someone who was having a bad day.
