A simple question from a newbie:

After collecting miles for years and finally using most of them this summer, I'm left with 11K miles, which I could top up to 20K with Amex Membership rewards... so given I'm not likely to earn many miles in the foreseeable future, whats the best use of these?

Upgrade to PE (from some booking classes) or a for 12,500 miles use a VS award on BMI to UK, Belgium, France, Netherlands, or Dublin. This would require less miles to be transfered from AmEx.

OR get an S class PE ticket, and you have enough to upgrade to Upper one-way.

Myself and the family are in a similar position where each of us has around 20k miles. I'm thinking along the lines of using them for a one off upgrade either E-PE or (one way) PE-UC as we have a "significant" year coming up with several landmark family events for which it would be worth blowing the miles as a celebration.

thanks for all the advice guys.

i'll have to think about it all and maybe try and top the miles up somewhow to buy a ow upper award because to use the miles to upgrade seems expensive because of the class it must be booked in to be eligible. from what i can see, for not much more you could buy the ticket in the desired class and earn miles on it rather than spend them...

or am i missing something?

[:?] Interesting point. I must admit I hadn't factored in that bit of the equation. More research methinks.
