Virgin Blue has applied to the Fed Govt for rights to fly to LAX & San Fran from Australia's East Coast. They are talking about 6 x 744's.

They intend to set up a new company which has to be 51% Australian owned.

Can't imagine anyone wanting to fly on a LCC over the pacific. Then again with Virgin Atlantic / Virgin Blue / Pacific Blue and Virgin America, the Virgin travel group could become a real global aviation player

Im not sure that this will ever happen under the DJ brand in fact i would be very surprised. Both Virgin Blue and Pacific Blue are LCC they are not like VS- the airlines are not really connected with VS in anyway- they dont even codeshare on flights in Oz or NZ.

It is true that DJ (PB) have started flights to NAN in Fiji but LAX is still 12 hours from NAN!!! Would be more likely to see VS trying to get a route like LAX-SYD or LAX-AKL than an LCC using the route. Has been a rumour in the south for a long time (im a regular visitor- every 4 months) that VS would start a Virgin Pacific flying from Oz/NZ to Asia and America.

We are more likely to see Pacfic Blue do domestic in NZ- in fact very likely rumour is a pre Xmas launch as soon as AKL slots are obtained. Secondly more likely to see EK use the pacific to access LAx- EK are trying to make AKL a South Pacific base like they have in London as European hub. They want to start flights to South America, Pacific and states from NZ/OZ as EK have been so well recieved in Akl and Chc.
