Odd remarks on V Hols booked VS flights

I've just gone in and had a look at my VS flight details on the VS web site I have booked with V hols to DXB in December.

I'm flying PE both ways, so that should be a H fare both ways being a VH booked flight, but according to the VS web site I'm flying PE lowest outbound and PE flexible inbound.

How long have VS been showing the actual fare type as well as cabin class?

How I've ended up with what looks like a W inbound is beyond me, but a miles upgrade at DXB will now be worth considering [:w]

It will be interesting to see what fare class my tickets show [:?]

Buckets for the VS401 on Jan 2 2008 are already showing as:

J7 D7 Z0 W7 S0 K0 Y7 B7 L7 M0 Q0 X0 N0

I have never used VH, but have always assumed that they gave you the lowest available bucket in your fare class.

If there were no K's or S's available on Jan 2 - is that why you got a W?

If this is a W, then I would think VH are losing out as I've only paid £249 for the PE supplement on top of the flight/holiday price for the way back.

When looking at my booking on the VH web site, there's no other flight class availble on Jan 2nd to upgrade/downgrade to either.

hi james we booked VH holiday in april this year going to mexico via mia they were only offering PE or UCS on the selected flights booked (feb 2008) but when we phoned VH to book they offerd us econonmy. we polietly declined and took the PE flights @ £550 each return but i cannot find what class of ticket we are booked on regards john

Strange.

You could always phone VS and check...

VH will use:

Economy: Lowest available, N first, and then V. So if you want to earn full mileage you need to ask at time of booking.

I just noticed the same remarks on my two recent VH bookings where my PE was shown as flexible and the UC as lowest. Strange though that I booked the PE ages ago and the UC more recently.

Maybe VH are doing as we all suspected and using extra allocation as they get nearer the flight date and these seats are already classed as J, D K or whatever?

Just to add my two pence worth - my booking is PE Lowest both ways....

So is that the reason then that my recent flights have earned me differing FC miles.

I flew economy with VH to MCO from MAN on 15th May and only earned 2112 miles

I flew back from MCO to MAN on 31st May and earned 4224.

and

We sat in exactly the same seat numbers on our return so where's the difference!

I have never had this happen before and to be quite honest I am really not happy at all.

I just feel like VH and/or FC are playing games with us and they are just risking losing long standing members I've already ditched the Virgin Atlantic Amex Card.[:(!]

As I have said many times before I have never used VH, but I believe you are exactly right in your assumptions. The way to check is to see how many TPs you got. N Class gets 1 and other Y classes get 2.

It is easy to be flippant and say look upon the extra miles as a bonus, rather than the N class miles as a penalty.

Up until a couple of years ago you would have got nothing for flights booked in N. One of the reasons I always book with VS direct is the ability (usually) to control what bucket you are booked in. Sometimes the premium between N and X is only a few pounds, other times - especially with really cheap newspaper promo fares, the supplement for the extra FC points and a single TP each way can be very expensive - well into three figures.

I stand to be corrected, but I assume that with VH you book "an economy seat",and it is then down to availability what bucket that turns out to be - hence my comment that an N and an X are better than two Ns.

You say you have never had it happen to you before, how many times have you received full miles and two TP's each way booking with VH?

We have been travelling MAN/MCO for years and years with VH, not sure how many times, but lots, and have always earned the full tier points and air miles. So you can imagine my surprise when I checked to see if my miles had been added and found this. I had no idea that I needed to ask about fare classes.

We are seriously considering ditching Virgin altogether and trying another airline, not just because of this but so many other problems as well.

Maybe another airline is no better or worse but I'm so annoyed because we count on those miles towards next years holiday. Without them we are just not financially able to travel to MCO[:(]
