VS to Athens

Apologies if this has been done to death on here before, but when I first started using VS (about 8 years ago) I'm fairly sure that they used to have an Athens flight from LHR.

I remember thinking at the time that this seemed odd - both in terms of not being long haul, but also a B and S flight from LHR.

Can anyone shed any light on the reason for them starting this route in the first place, and also why it has subsequently been binned?

It was done to death, some time ago though, so it is a good theme for a thread.:D
