Hi all!

I've finally got round to subscribing to v-flyer but this is my first post so be gentle! :-)

Question for you - I'm flying LGW-LAS on 22/11/07 and back again on 29/11/07 in Premium Econony, K class. I wanted to know if it would be possible to upgrade to UC for miles at the airport or is that not possible on a K class ticket?

I've only ever flown UC on virgin before and don't know what to really expect in PE and thought if I could I would try to upgrade.

Really looking forward to vegas! will be staying at the four seasons and venetian.

thanks
Claire

Welcome to V-Flyer, Claire! [y]

Technically, K fares are not upgradeable with miles, but there is no harm in asking on the day of departure at check-in as if VS are looking to upgrade people because PE is full, they'll likely take you up on your offer. There are only 14 suites in the LGW UC cabin though, so it can be quite tricky to score that upgrade, depending on when you travel. I've managed it once, so its not impossible, just dont expect it and see if lady luck is with you.

PE on LGW fleet isnt that bad really. While i'd also much rather be in the pointy bit, we had a good flight out to UVF in PE in September. Its the old style seating but chances are you'll be upstairs with dedicated crew and washrooms. Not a bad place to be!

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks for the reply Sarah :)

I looked at the seat assigments and managed to select upstairs on the inbound flight but outbound it says "We're sorry. The seat map is not available at this time. Your seats will be assigned at check in". Last time I checked we were downstairs at the back of PE for the outbound flight.

So what do you think the best thing to do is? check in online and try to get an upstairs PE seat or wait to check in at the airport and ask about the upgrade with miles to UC?

thanks

Claire - you won't be able to access the seat map because the 60% of seats that are available for pre-selecting will have already been allocated.

The best thing to do would be to use OLCI to at least guarantee your current seats and that you will be sat together. Then at the airport you will still be able to try for an upgrade, and if that doesn't work then you might also be able to bag the Exit Row seats upstairs that are only available at airport check in.

It also may mean a change of aircraft. I can't access the seat map for my return this Wednesday. Last time this happened to me in September on the way back from New York, there was a Airbus rather than a Boeing at the Gate at JFK.

Whilst it's very unlikely you'll end up an Airbus you might end up on Heathrow configured Boeing 747 - 400.

Yes you will be able to use miles from your account to upgrade both tickets (if available etc)
