I think I know the answer to this, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Here's how I presume it works:

Web site offers cheapest available fare bucket for class at time of search.
VA call centre offers fully flexible fare bucket only.
Customers can't choose their own fare bucket in between these.

So I can't call VA and ask for S fares for example. I have to wait until the web site begins to offer these?

I was able to change flight dates for 50 last year when I had S fares. I'd like that option again... not to mention the opportunity to upgrade if a G class was available on my flight dates.

The website will show the lowest available, and full fare flexible tickets. The call centres will offer any fare classes that are available, you just need to ask for what you want.

If you want an S, and there is one available they will allow you to buy one.

If you call VS to book, I'm pretty sure that you can specify the fare code you want to book. If you ask for an S fare, I think they can book one for you.

Thank you so much. I wished I'd asked this two nights ago. I'll give VS a call.

I thought it might be worth mentioning, that you can also book your ticket with two different fare codes, if you call. I do this frequently as I often fly PE on a daytime flight to NY and UC on an overnight flight back to London. I call and ask for a K ticket in one direction (to get the cheapest PE fare) and an S in the other direction, and then upgrade the S to a G with miles.

I have always found the Flying Club very helpful in this regard.
As soon as you specify that you want a full points earning ticket and don'tm want an 'N' class fare in economy, they are happy to run through the options and prices with you.

I suppose a lot depends on the agent you are talking to though. [;)]

I spoke to a lovely lady (regret not hearing her name properly) at the Flying Club who was happy to let me choose the fares I wanted and the pricing was the same as the web site.

So thanks again all those who replied.

I tried this with BA before, after waiting about an hour for the call to be answered the guy had the perfect BA knack of making me feel really small with his tone alone. He wouldn't help. He was only prepared to sell me fully flex.
