Hi

I have searched but haven't found a topic on this question.

My brother and I will both be travelling on the same flight. I will be in Upper Class and he will be in Economy. I know that he can accompany me into the Club Lounge at Heathrow. Since we are travelling together, can he also use the Upper Class check-in (not drive-thru)and security channel with me?

Edit to thread title by mod - capital letters removed...... Nick

I have done exactly this with my brother, when I was in PE and he was down the back. We both used the UC check in / security channel and didn't have a problem.

You will have no problem in doing this at all - make sure you arrive at the same time and enjoy the faster check through to the Clubhouse!

Also while on-board, have a chat with the Flight Services Manager (FSM - usually the person in a black shirt / blouse) and mention your brother in Economy. Usually when we have asked if a friend can join us at our Suite for a drink it hasn't been a problem - but please ask first.

I have done the same; was not a problem. Be sure to thank the FSM if your request is honored.

I was travelling in Y last May with my wife/children on holiday. The FSM turned up at my seat with champers and welcomed me on board (Au card?). The other pax were a bit jealous; wife had a sip and refused to give it back [:0]

A word of warning.

I was on a flight to the USA last year.

I was travelling in PE & my friend was travelling UC.
I asked the PE ccm if I could visit my friend at some stage during the flight. 'Of course' came the reply.
I also asked the FSM, & 'of course' came the reply, 'have a drink'.

After drinks, meal, drinks & duty free & some 5 hours into the flight, I visited my friend & perched on the ottoman. I hadn't been there for 5 miniutes when an UC ccm came & asked me to leave.

My friend & I were stunned.[:0][:0][:0][:0]

I said that I had asked the PE ccm & the FSM if it was ok to visit my friend & had been told 'yes'. The UC ccm said that they couldn't have pax from other classes disturbing UC pax & that it was the rule. I asked if this was a new rule since our flight had taken off but the UC ccm repeated that they couldn't have their UC pax being disturbed.

I left because I was SO angry & humiliated.

Some while later my friend came to visit me. My friend & I were still stunned & virtually speechless. I could have cried with anger & embarrassment. My friend said to me that the UC ccm would be coming to apologise to me. The UC ccm did not come to see me.

After we had landed my friend gave me a bottle of wine. It was from the UC CCM to aplogise.

We were both still seething.

Some while after my return to the UK I sent an email to the VA customer complaints dept.

I received an email from VA addressed to a man responding to his email of complaint regarding his flight to the USA on which there had been a problem.[:?][V]

A while later I received a reply to my email along the lines of we can't allow pax to disturb UC pax & hoping that my next flight with VA would be ok.

I was still VERY angry & wrote to SRB's office.
I did not receive a reply.
Upon chasing my reg/recorded letter I found that the post office couldn't confirm that my letter had been delivered.

I wrote again stating that the post office couldn't confirm delivery & enclosing a copy of my original letter.

Whilst writing, I queried as to why 3,000 miles had been added to my account as VA silver FC couldn't enlighten me.
If it was a customer relation bonus relating to my flight then I didn't think that 3,000 miles fairly reflected the humiliation & embarrassment I had felt.
I received a photocopy of their original letter which was along the lines of they usually respectfully decline such requests so as not to upset UC pax.
In this case I was advised this was possible but it wasn't related to the UC ccms. They did apologise that the FSM didn't find the time to apologise personally & the wine was offered, via my friend by way of apology.
Also, because there were other issues on that flight they had added 3,000 miles to my account.

I am still angry, my heart rate has increased as I write this & I can feel myself going red with embarrassment - even now.

I write this as a word of warning to all V-Flyers.

Is it possible that one of the other UC passengers complained to the UC FA? If they did then I would have thought it was irrelevant that the FSM said it was OK. Also perhaps they felt it was fine at the time you asked but 5 hours into the flight when there were UC passengers sleeping etc it was less appropriate.

Visitations (which sounds very prison like) to UC are at the FAs discretion and should not be expected. That said, I think you were right to be upset given that you had asked and been given the expectation that this would be OK.

Another reason for the change is that the crew you spoke with could have, at the time, gone on their rest break and other crew members were not aware.

In reply to the last 2 postings,

1) Before I went to visit my friend I again cleared it with the PE CCM.

2) Also, I did not see any UC pax move from their seats, in the few minutes that I was with my friend, to complain about my presence.

3) There were no pax at the bar.

4) If the UC CCM decided that I shouldn't be in UC, then when I stated that I had cleared it with the FSM they should have checked, or if the FSM was on a break then checked with the relevant PE CC.

I'm still angry about this incident & won't be going out of my way to be loyal to VA for a long time.

I havn't renewed my VA black Amex.

I recently flew to DXB but went with Emirates. It was super-duper.
