Well here's an interesting one as well...

Supposedly if you call Virgin Atlantic bookings (according to Virgin Blue) and book Virgin Blue flights through them you get the international baggage allowance for Australia domestic flights as well (up to 32kgs)

[^] Great idea me thinks... until you actually come to try booking a flight with Virgin Blue through VA.... [n]

Any ideas why the VS team cant see any DJ flights for October, when I could clearly see them on the internet [?] I even gave VA bookings flight numbers and they couldn't call up any bookings.... even joked with the VS representative that she sounded like the 'computer says no' from Little Britain... she was as baffled as I was. Aledgedly VBlue dont have any routes in october...

so much for the codeshare...[?] Any ideas how I crack this one would be welcomed... seem to be going on a VS DJ ping pong![n]

It's not possible to book DJ (Virgin Blue) flights alone through VS. I'm not aware if VS reservations here in the UK (or in HKG) are able to book DJ (Virgin Blue) codeshare flights but I do know that VS reservations in Australia will be able to book DJ flights with a VS designator from certain Australian cities in conjunction with a VS flight. This enables through check-in and VS international baggage allowances.

So how would this work in practice [:(]? Do I have to phone Australian VS reservations, quote my existing VS200 LHR-HKG-SYD booking code and THEN request DJ flights for SYD-MEL for instance? How would LHR checkin know how to differentiate my bags? Fed up lugging bags around SYD from a VS200 flight only to check back in AGAIN on a Virgin Blue flight...[:(!] Wahtever happened to joined up thinking???

I would have thought that VS can only see the flights if they search for (for example) London-Adelaide. They would then be able to book the connecting flight under the codeshare. I am pretty sure that all flights would need to be booked at the same time. I am certain that this is how it works with the other codeshares (e.g. Newark to Houston on Continental).

Presumably you would still need to lug your bags through the Australian customs before rechecking them anyway.
