Just enquired for cost of upgrade to P/E on LGW-MBJ.
It took forever (well 15min call) for her to work out the cost. This was 20 different on the return than outbound. Someting to do with fuel surcharges.
I asked if I could book the seat position but was told that this was only possible 2 weeks before flying. Does this sound right?
According to the website it quotes 300+ days in advance.
Also, I was unable to upgrade online as this tab was not available.

I am keen on sitting upstairs but am unsure how I find out if there are seats available.

1st time poster, great forum!

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer.

Once you have done the upgrade you will be able to pre-select your seat pretty much straight away via the manage my booking section on the VS site. Only 60% of seats are available for pre-selecting so as long this limit hasn't been reached then you will be ok.

The only way to find out if upstairs seats are currently available is to either contact VS and ask, or use a site like Expert flyer (members of V-Flyer get 20 free searches and a discount on membership also)

VH have also got an intergration problem due to a new computer system with any bookings made to their Worldwide Destinations in that you are unable to service your bookings on the VS/VH website, you are also not able to prebook seating until the actual tickets have been printed! This has been an ongoing issue since November and still no fix yet![;)]

Thanks

Hi Simon, I have recently booked through Virgin Holidays for a week in Jamaica flying to and from MBJ. It took me 3 phone calls before I got the quote that I should have been given and the first two people I spoke to didn't seem to have a clue. On the third occasion I was given my booking reference and VS reference and the seat map worked straight away on the VS website so it is definately possible to allocate your seats as I do not fly until July 11th. I would try ringing them again if I were you. Perseverance worked for me!

It depends on your booking ref number, if you have the VH ref with the W07/S09 etc at the end then yes you can still do your seat allocations etc, if however you have the new 7 digit booking number then you may have problems.

This problem does not effect bookings to the USA/Canada

Thanks

There is currently a thread on The Dibb regarding this issue.
A passenger was told that VS have changed there policy and you could not book seats until 2 weeks before departure.

SO it looks like they are switching to the new system for USA bookings too, hopefully this will push a fix through PDQ!

Thanks

I believe the problem is at the VS end, as their system is an old legacy system, therefore, it wont talk to the brand new VH reservation system properly. VS managed a manual work-around for VH US bookings to allow seat selection before e-ticket issue, but it cannot be done for VH worldwide bookings.

Having to switch over to e-ticketing for all agent bookings has also compounded the problems.

VH where using their old system for US bookings which worked with the VS system but now I think even US bookings go on the new reservation system at VH.

But you still cant service the booking on the VH site if you have the new style booking number, if you want a new invoice or wish to book trips etc you have to call them. That surely is a VH issue although I tend to agree re the VS work-around!

Thanks

We booked direct with Sandals a couple of weeks ago. The booking guy rang us back a couple of days later with our locator code for Virgin, to access seat plans etc.
We are not flying to MBJ with Virgin until June.

We also booked Beaches Negril for Oct (at end Nov) and was given a locator code in Dec?
This was also through VH. (Maybe it was before the system change)?
