They shouldn't, they are well to the north of LAX, if your flying into Burbank for any reason you may have an issue, but even there it is minimal.

The smoke is blowing away from LAX at the moment. The firefighters announced better conditions overnight; keep fingers crossed as there are many, many people in harm's way.

Given the location of the airport, both with respect to the metro area, and the sea, you are more likely to be affected by fog than you are by forest fires. Start a riot and burn down Inglewood, that's another matter, but forests are a good ways away.

They do seem to be getting a handle on them. Unfortunately, they appear to be human initiated. Most evac orders have been lifted now.

The fire that had to make me chuckle was the one just outside Yosemite - the national park service initiated a 'controlled' burn, in late August (!!!), which they promptly proceeded to mess up. Almost made it into Yosemite West ... positively Pythonesque.

Ah, yesterday's news was classic though...

'The homes lost count has increased from 53 to 62. 125,000 acres is the current spread of the fire. Glendale now considering evacuation. AND THE MOUNTAIN BASED TV AERIALS MAY NOW BE AT RISK!!!' (said with capitals emphasised by urgency in the presenter's voice...

Yes, no mention of the observatory that is up there, the 747 and DC 10 fire fighting planes have been dropping loads of retardant in that area to try to stem the fire LINK

The 747 dropping is very impressive indeed.

But don't the reporters talk some drivel? 'It carries 20,000 gallons..., compare that to the 10,000 the DC10 carries. That's nearly double.' No that's EXACTLY double!!
