OHare airport

Hi all,

I'm flying into O'Hare in late sep on a Thu night, landing at the international terminal for 20:00. Any idea of transit time to get on an internal flight with AA or United? Having spent hours there as a youngster I want to keep hanging around time to a minmum but don't want to risk missing a flight!!

Any advice would be great?

I'd allow at least two hours as you'll need to get yourself from the international terminal to whichever terminal/concourse your connecting flight will depart from.

I have found that many of the American shuttles will let you take an earlier flight if space is available. By all means this isnt a guarantee, but I'd rather leave a little more time and have the hope of catching the earlier flight than trying to squeeze in a connection in under 2 hours and having that additional stress if your inbound flight is delayed.

HF's advise is good and generally in the US 2 hrs is sensible. O'Hare is pretty efficient however, immigration is not as bad as some other airports and the inter-terminal shuttle is fast and frequent. Plan for 2 hrs and if you can take an earlier flight then go for it!

As others have said, 2 hrs should be enough, terminal to terminal transfer are very easy at ORD. Immigration, I've had experience of getting through in 5 minutes but also not getting through for over 90 minutes, it obviously just depends on what's there before you.

Thanks all, I land 20:00 and plan to take a 22:20 flight with AA.. So should leave enough time... hopefully...

That really should be ample - though I haven't been through the non-resident line at ORD for 12 years ... If you are checking a bag, you will not be able to stand by on an earlier flight. Only works when you have carry-on luggage alone - at least last few times I have done, or tried to do this, on United. Something about not liking you to travel without your bag - though they seem to have no issue with this when it is the airline that misplaces you luggage ...
