Hi all,

I have a friend joining me on a trip to SFO in Jan, booked on a f&f ticket through a friend of mine (in economy). He now wants to upgrade the ticket using miles to join me in upper - now clearly you cant upgrade this fare code but does anyone know the rules on payign the difference between that f&f ticket and an upgradable fare? Is it possible? It would make sense as Virgin will make more money from him and clear a load of miles but the premier team seem hesitant to offer any advice (I get the impression they don't know..)

Any advice from staffers would be great?

Thanks,

I assume you mean Miles & Money? Not heard of a F&F ticket on Virgin.

Tried this in the past with no success. The ticket desk can't work out the base fare, so the only way they could deal with it was suggest throwing it away and buying a new ticket. The only way I've seen someone on a M&M fare get an upgrade is an involuntary one, just because they had status; and nothing to do with their ticket.

Is the OP talking about 'mates rates' that friends of staff get?

If so, I have no idea to the answer to the question. [:)]

Mates fares are generally N or X fares. I don't think you can change the tickets but maybe someone here will know more about those fare buckets.
