OK, As I've never flown with VS from LGW. It wasn't until I read Gingerflyer's TR (Link) that I found out that you could do Twilight Check-in and still dump your bags next day!

So my question is.. Can I do Twilight Check-in on, say Friday, dump my big suitcases and then bag drop a small overnight bag on the saturday? (I will be going PE in Feb.)

I've moved this from Gingerflyer's TR as I felt it was more appropriate to start a new thread.

Bag Drop lines on the day can get very long, so you will need to do it as early as possible

You of course will be able to drop your bags at the PE desks as you are an Ag card holder.

Possibly also because DA is flying PE?[:w]

In the summer we were told that if you fly PE, even if use OLCI you should use the PE check in to drop bags as they stand more chance of arriving in a priority bin (or whatever the luggage holders are called).

Not really as all the bags go down the same belt no matter which desk you use. The bar codes on the tags are scanned and the bags are then placed into the correct containers.

The PE/UC check-in desks have moved so that they are opposite the ones for economy and bag drop - this could mean that there is some truth in the matter that they stand a better chance of ending up in the right bin for priority baggage (they used to be at the end nearest the ticket desk but on the same side).

All the bags (no matter which desk they've been checked in on) end up in the depths of the terminal so it really doesn't make any difference which desk at all. The barcode on the bag tag is everything.

How do I know this? Five years spent working at check-in!

yes, I suppose flying PE could also be a valid reason to use the PE check in[:w]

Thank you for all the replies. So it looks like my plan is go-er![y]

As it looks like we're staying in the Hilton the night before I'm not too bothered with the wait to drop the overnight bag. I'm just hoping that I can get paid access to the CH.
