Well VA have very kindly retimed my IAD flight in March to arrive at 16:10 instead of 15:00. I with family (3 kids) need to connect to Jet Blue for a 18:20 to MCO. So what was a very comfortable transfer has now become somewhat less comfortable.

Has anyone any experience of IAD transfers - I believe the recent work has now finished (or should have done by March). Is two hours still reasonably comfortable or should I start looking at other options - not that there are any really.

Connected within 2 hrs easily from VS21 to a united flight recently. Our checked bag didn't make it thought due to TSA.

Two hours should be fine. I would call 90 minutes tight.

The new arrivals hall is better now at Dulles but make sure you stay at the drivers end of the mobile lounge so you get off 1st. Took me 60 mins to get through last week, but the later flight arrival time should put you clear of the BA and Airfrance flights that normally arrive at 15.00 ish.

Last time I went through IAD I had a two hours connect and made it only by the skin of my teeth and thanks to a security alert which closed the airport and on my previous trip to that it took me a full hour to go through Immigration. Hopefully the later arrival will mean you are not arriving the same time as all the other European flights and there will be less of a wait.

Be aware that you cannot interline with jetBlue and so will have to re-check your bags. However my experience of American airlines is that they are very accommodating about booking you on to later flights if necessary

Thanks all, somewhat reassured. The JetBlue flight is just about the last one out and becasue of Easter standing by the following day is not something I want to contemplate.

The clocks go forward in the US the previous Sunday and I think that is why the timings are all over the place - hopefully the other flights will not have a similar later arrival.

There is a new immigration hall and new security lines; both decrease wait times. I would say 2 hours is excellent. The airport subway SHOULD be open in a matter of days. They are finalizing testing now.

Thanks Ben - feel a great deal more secure now providing we arrive on schedule. My only worry now is a delay to arrival :-)

I always had a 2 hour connection to my Denver flight when travelling Virgin to DC, most of the time my bag never made it either.
