Any LAX tips?

Off to LA on Tuesday and it will be my first time arriving at LAX. Are there any tips to help with a speedy passage through the airport?, for example, when travelling to MCO you should always stay to the right at immigration as once the US citizen are processed they open these booths to other passengers.

Also just noticed that the Air New Zeland flight departs LHR 15 minutes before the VS023 so I guess I'm in for a long wait[n]

Get off the plane as quickly as you can and run to immigration. To be honest LAX isn't that bad compared to MIA or IAD but with the latest increase in security it's always better to be at the front of the queue than the back.

I could have sworn that on my last few trips to MCO, the US Citizens lanes were all on the left hand side in the Immigration Hall, the Visitors lanes were to the right, with the Diplomat / 'Special' lanes further over on the far right hand side.

Of course, if the OP means 'stay near the US Citizens lanes' then I fully agree. I know a couple of years ago at MCO that only certain Visitors lanes could read biometric passports, but I guess this is probably a thing of the past now.

T2 at LAX is quite compact and there isn't the congestion of arriving flights that you get at JFK say, or just the sheer inadequacy and awfulness of MIA.

I've never really had a problem at LAX, even arriving at TBIT. But T2, where VS arrives and in UC, you'll be near the front and quickly through.

One tip when you get into the immigration hall and if there are several visitor lines open, it's worth checking how many agents are serving each line. I flew into LAX on Dec 7th on NZ1 and some lines had 3 agents wheras some had just 1 and large queues build up pretty quickly. Usually it's not bad though - nothing like as horrible as JFK can get for instance.

You're not in TBIT, as Slinky says. It'll be a relative breeze.

T2 is fairly easy. The real challenge is in departing the airport if you haven't arranged for transportation and you are unfamiliar with the area. I assume you have that aspect handled but let us know if you'd like advice on ground transportation.

Thanks Chuck, I've got a rental car with Alamo. The Lax website seem to suggest that the pick up point for the shuttle bus is outside on the lower level.

Steve, that's correct. There is an automated announcement and the pickup points are noted by various colors.
