Fare code 'O'

I'm about to book an economy flight to HKG via the Virgin Atlantic website and noticed that the fare code is O. What is this code? I've looked at the descriptions in http://www.v-flyer.com/codes.asp and this says it's not used anymore.

The only thing I can find on the VS site is this:

But I am not sure what O class relates to. Is it a staff travel or soem sort of special voucher booking code? Which if they case, it is unusual for it to just appear through the search engine.

Just looking a bit more, I have found this is the T&C's:

When travelling in Economy (V,X,N,O) you will earn 50% of the miles flown, (Y,B,L,M,Q), you will earn 100% of the miles flown, in Premium Economy (K,H) you will earn 125% of the miles flown, (W,S) you will earn 150% and Upper Class (R,Z) you will earn 150% of the miles flown, (J,D) you will earn 200% of the miles flown.

So maybe it is a new, lowest Y class fare code they are going to start using again?

I notice the O code when looking at a flight earlier to HK, Outward on 15th April, return on 21st

The difference in the fare conditions between that and N appear to be in the reservation conditions - O has:

Advanced reservation / ticketing
RESERVATIONS FOR ALL SECTORS ARE REQUIRED AT LEAST 7 DAYS BEFORE DEPARTURE. TICKETING MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 72 HOURS AFTER RESERVATIONS ARE MADE OR AT LEAST 7 DAYS BEFORE DEPARTURE WHICHEVER IS EARLIER.

I've got an 'O' fare for Boston in June, booked in the sale.

It said the usual 50% miles for a low end Y fare.

O fares now also showing on EF as well:

So it looks to be lower than N

Thanks for this I was meaning to ask about it, it showed up as a lowest fair on the lhr-jfk route too.

So does that mean it's a fare code you can hold for three days before confirming. That would be excellent - even better would be the same approach across each cabin!

If you book through a travel agent you can already do that on all fares.

Well I just bought my mum a ticket to Delhi yesterday booked in O code, and was told it was allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage. The check in staff last night were surprised by this and had never seen an O code before, even better my mum had an op-up to premium at check in! The ticket was bought via an agent and was 60 cheaper than the VA website!

Also as I booked the ticket on the day of departure, not sure about the 7 day rule mentioned above......

Some specialist agents get VFR (Visit Friends and Relatives) rates to their destination such as an Indian agent will get special contracts for their destination. This can sometimes includes sales which are not on the VA website or other perks such as Advanced Purchase waivers. Always check with a specialist of the country you are visiting especially India, Japan, China and the Carib. There are not so many for the USA.

I booked a flight late yesterday LHR - JFK (just before the sale cut-off) and my return flight is on O . I didn't think this was used on VS flights anymore? Or do they re-instate it for sales?

Probably nothing but always intrigued!

Just to jump into this one again, I've booked a LHR - JFK flight with O on the return leg. It's saying I'll earn 5,187 miles on this booking. This is compared to 3,458 miles on an X fare on the same day. Would that not mean that O is above X in terms of mileage?!

That is unusual. O and are X should earn the same amount of miles, which should be 50% of the miles flown (plus any bonus miles for being Ag). The amount you have quoted is another 50%, so either you are earning 100% of miles (plus the Ag 25% bonus) , or it is just a mistake.
