Transfer MIA-LHR-OSL-HAU

Hi,

This is my first time flying with Virgin and first time transfer through LHR so maybe you could help me with some questions:

1. Our flight from MIA to LHR var changed so we only have 1 hour 15 minutes before our next flight to Oslo with SAS. Is this enough time?

2. Someone told me that I could check in the bags all the way from Miami to Oslo, so that we did not have to pick them up at LHR. (the flights are booked seperatly) If so I guess that would speed things up a bit.

Outbound we are flying HAU-OSL-LHR-SFO but there we got plenty of time (unless they decides to change that as well)

To answer your questions:

1) 1hr 15mins is a pretty tight connection. SAS fly also from T3, so that is a good start, but any sort of delay and you could miss your connection.

2) It is highly unlikely you will be able to check your bags right through. This can usually only be done if all your flights are booked on one ticket, with one PNR reference. So you need to be prepared to collect your luggage and recheck it in, again this could take time and not help with your very tight connection.

It will do no harm to ask in Miami whether or not you can check your bags all the way through. I've done that when my booking has been on separate tickets in the US and with one or two exceptions I have been lucky to be able to do so.

I just got an email from SAS stating that they had a interline agreement with Virgin Atlantic, and therefor we should have no problem checking the bags all the way. I have sent the same question to VS. And based on the response we would decide what to do with the connecting flight. It was quite expensive to change the tickets to a later flight

I can't find it in the VS website other than on the Flight Connector tool but at one stage they were saying very clearly that they will not through-check luggage on separate tickets even with airlines that do have an interlining agreement. I have however found that in the US they are more flexible and I think it has only been on one occasion when they have not through-checked my bags even though I have been on separate tickets.

If they say no, then try the tight connection plea. It worked for me last year when the inbound was so late it cut into my connecting time at LHR and a supervisor agreed to do it.
