having just flown Air NZ business, and wanting to go back to this fabulous country with my partner, but put off by the cost of two sleeper seats on this looong journey... this newly announced sleeper economy seems a great idea:

basically you buy 3 economy seats between two of you, and get to spoon it! I think the economy tickets are each at a modest premium to regular economy, but expect them to be very popular on ultra long flights.

Virgin seems to have been caught napping on this one. It used to be them that came up with innovative mould breaking ideas like this.

ps: note the lack of blankets in the press photos, think they want people to keep their clothes on!

when you read about the size of the actual 'bed' it is very small, and you have to either buy all three if you want to be on your own or share in a very cramped space.....maybe the overall cost isn't that good for what you actually get

but for TWO of you, its fine, unless you are big/tall. it seems you pay only 50% for the third seat anyways.

on my main route - JFK-AKL:

flat bed business tickets are $10,000 each - i.e. $20,000 for two
2.5 economies, at $1300 each plus $700 for the extra - i.e. $3300 total - saving $16,500 !!

I would call that a bargain.
