I have to say much as I enjoy the UC as we tend to fly mostly from LGW i am struggling to find justification on the extra over PE when you can sit upstairs. Perhaps the Ch is the only real benfit as i find the UC seats no more comfy that eh PE and as beds i struggle to sleep beacuse they are so hard. Just cant convince myslef that UC is worth the xtra

buy PE and use miles to upgrade. For some reason I always feel much more rested after traveling horizontally even if I haven't slept.

I think UC really comes in to it's own on a longer flight, having the bar is a great way to pass a few hours and although it has taken a few flights I find it really easy to sleep in the bed now.

On the MAN-MCO route I do about 50-50 on outbound flights.
Miss the bar chat when in PE, but that's about it. So UC depends upon a very good sale price!
On the overnight - UC always. We do manage to sleep even on the hard beds. I keep promising myself a blowup mattress just to see the CC and other pax reactions!
On LHR routes, almost always UC - CH and the larger & more populated bar [:)]

Upstairs in PE on a daytime flight is usually pretty good - main thing is sometimes you can't get an upstairs seat!

My priority is to fly UCS so justification on price differentials doesn't come in to it, I look for the best price available for the cabin I want. If I saw a real bargain in PE I might grab it but would be hankering for UCS during the flight. That said a full J fair against a discounted PE might be a different matter.

Have a look at these..Most decent Mountaineering shops generally stock Thermarest

You can get some in 3/4 length making them ideal for UCS

Good one - it's a shame that I confess that I'll probably buy one of these, the UC bed desperately needs a new mattress, time after time I find it so hard and uncomfortable.

Back to the OP - if you are flying for leisure purposes, then I still think UC is worth it over PE, but not by that much. On business however, there's leagues of difference.

For us there's no comparison. My husband is unable to sit for long periods following unsuccessful spinal surgery and I have a tummy problem that causes pain if I'm cramped up for too long. Being able to lie down is a God send for us and worth every penny.

well i just booked LGW-MCO this morning bumped from EC to PE through my Amex spend bonus. managed to get upstairs which is good, 2 flights 70000 miles + 490total instead of a grand each for PE or 1900 ea UC , think i can survive PE and save over 3 grand

Many thanks NH; have read the reviews and they seem absolutely ideal!
Will be ordering as soon as I get over to Fl and will try it out on the way back.

Have you tried one at all?
That 370g Medium size seems just about right - not worried about the need for a soft base for my feet!

I had a 3/4 length mat for yrs, Thermarest Lite one I believe, (one with foam fill), used it on Climbing adventures. Mind those days have gone. But they are substantially better than anything else on the market. Best bet head to Decent Outdoor shop, like Nevisport/Cotsworld etc to check them out.
I've not used on a flight, but don't see why not..

We are currently in Orlando and this is our 3rd trip in UC.

Our first trip was out of this world, our girls were 4 and nearly 2 at the time and just have a bit of flexibility with them in UC was worth it's weight in gold. They had the space to play nicely on their beds and even sat on the floor playing for a spell and this meant that we could relax a little and they behaved very well.

On our last trip they still enjoyed the space around them and again I would say it was worth while. On this trip though they pretty much stayed put in their seats and although our youngest did have a little sleep, I just don't think we can justify the cost of UC any longer. I have had a little look at prices for a similar trip next year and the cost of UC is nearly double that of PE and so I feel at this point that if we decide to travel to Orlando again next year it will definately be in PE...... I have to admit that the novelty of UC has worn off a little TBH.....

So for now its back to PE for us.....

Ali.
