As we normally do with morning flights we're staying overnight at LHR before our trip to Miami later this month and then getting a cab to T3 in the morning. We usually get dropped outside the main terminal and then check in at the UC desks before going up in the lift etc.

My question is, can we get the cab to use the drive through check in and if so how would this work?

Thanks

As long as you qualify to use DTCI then you can use a taxi.

This is what I did when I got the email inviting me to use it as part of the 'Trial' (that I've never been asked to comment on)! I was flying on a G so no CDC and not enough miles to book one! -

The day before my flight (e-mail arrived Monday for my Wednesday flight inviting me to use DTCI) I phoned UC support to get a time slot for my arrival.

On departure day when my car arrived at Tonty Towers I had to phone them again and give them the make, model, colour and registration of the car. The blurb says that the Dept of Transport requires you to given them these details more than 30 mins before you are due to arrive at LHR. Luckily I live more than 30 mins from LHR!

At the barrier to the ramp either the number plate recognition works and the barrier opens or your driver has to use the intercom!

You then drive up the ramp, a nice VS staff member welcomes you by name and chap carries yor bags for you into the little lounge area. You finish the usual prelimiaries then through the private security channel.

Just to emphasise what tonty has said, you have to be invited to use the DTCI. It was being trialled for a time but whether this is still on-going I do not know. I haven't heard of anyone using it recently by invitation

I was invited in February it came as a total surprise as the thinking on here was that the trial ended sometime last year.

The registration process calls for a vehicle description and Registration plate, so if you know what your vehicle will be and the license plate a few days beforehand all should be fine.

If you do not know these details, you may get unstuck here.

We last used the DTCI with our regular Airport Transfer service in August, and it worked well.

I hope I get an invitation again for my May SFO trip.

You make it sounds like a real hardship having to make that long trek from the UC desks to the lift and accross the lobby to the door to the private security channel !
